I missed a return phone call but got the following info on my voicemail.  Hip replacement quote was $3,000-$4,000.
FHO would be $1300 and would include everything.  I sent him the xrays and hope to get a call back shortly.

Thanks for the advice workingdogz and I will call around to see.

FHO would likely be a good option for Chrissys dog.

Plenty of vets unfortunatly have lots of experience doing them. Recovery from this procedure seems pretty good as well. He may never be able to do much "work" in the form of structured training etc, but will be able to be an active companion.

Thanks for helping Chrissy out Ace, it's always easier for someone to call around when they know the geographic area.
Once she decided which route to go, then perhaps she would be willing to give out the vet clinic info so donations could be made.

Chrissy or Ace, perhaps you can call around to some Equine therapy or conditioning facilities, most of those have pools too.
Sometimes you need to think outside the box

Chrissy...he is only 8 months go with FHO...I had 1 hip done on my dog...it's affordable (some vets can do it in their office OR, and its cheaper than going to a "specialty" hospital/clinic) and it will give your dog a quality of life.

FHO and swimming....
My dog had FHO done in May (8 months ago) and you cant even tell now that she ever had a hip issue...

Um, yeah, workingdogz...pretty much the same thing I thought you meant, as I said in my post. We call them "country vets." They work on working animals owned by working people. They don't command big city prices and usually have more experience...to repeat what I already said.

ACE  and everyone else who has offered to help Chrissy and Kaiser out,, all of you are angels:)

If I were closer, I'd be glad to do what I could as well.  I can't send much, but I would be willng to donate to help him as well.

I'm sure she's very disappointed that Kaiser has problems, but she's a girl who loves that dog no matter what.  And YES I saw his overbite when she first got him, and in my opinion, it was the worst I had ever seen, this puppy was not going to grow out of that bite:( and YES he came that way:(

Chrissy, I'll pm you either here or other board, and get an addy to send a donation.  I hope the surgeon Ace has found will be of help to Kaiser.

The over bite was that obvious?  Was it something an experienced GSD person, broker, or breeder would have recognized easily or could it have been missed when selecting the pup?  If I understand correctly the brokers/ breeders kept a couple of pups from this litter and I would assume looked and evaluated all of the pups?  I have not had time to read the entire thread on the other forum.  PM me and I will help as well.

Question and I'm only asking becasue I don't know, is the breeder/broker posting to this thread now and offering help?

Ok look like $1300 for the FHO is the best quote I am going to get.  I spent all morening and afternoon calling around to get quotes and most want $2500 for FHO.  Others want to see the dog in person (some require consultation fee) to basically say the samething.

I called a few rescue looking for recommendations and some panned out while others didn;t.

Vet who quoted me $1300 saw the x-rays and says it can get the FHO and just needs to set up an appointment.  Vet is very nice as I said I have taken my dogs there before and the staff is great and I highly recommendchecking them out.  Chrissy let me know when you want to check them out and I can certainly go wih you if you want.

Nice to see everyone willing to help on this.

Jim,

I'm asking myself the same question. Is the breeder, importer etc.. willing to refund the purchase price to help with the costs of these procedures? Why are people so defensive of a breeder who is not willing?
Perhaps I'm not reading between the lines here but if what this poor owner/dog has to go through isn't enough......Lets protect the breeder who isn't willing to help her? Hopefully I'm reading this all wrong and if I am my apologies. But If I am correct and the breeder is who I think he is then AGAIN he should be exposed for selling crap....period!!

Good Post workingdogz!!!
