Trip Down Memory Lane - Page 1

I remember one person commenting that the bitch was looking underweight and stressed, and they were hoping this would be her last litter, as she wasn't looking very healthy. (I believe it was.)

A number of years have passed since then. I'm stil in touch with the owner on FB. This morning she posted that Gwen was going to be making that final trip to the vet's today.

She is 18 years old. :o

I think that's the longest lived GSD I've heard of.
I'm sure she had good care, but she also hit the genetic lottery.

Rik, she sure did, especially as she was battling cancer the last 5 years of her life! Her owner swears is was CBD oil that helped keep the cancer at bay.

[sigh] My apologies - turns out the '18' was a mistake by her owner (typo, probably). She's only 16, but still, that's a very long life for a GSD.

There is Gabi vom Fichtenwald in SV that is born 2 october 2008 out of the same parents as Gwen, could they be littermates? Then that would make Gwen 13 years old in 10/2021.

I remember and recognize Ursus Von Batu in the 4th generation on the top side of Gwen's pedigree.

Could be Esko's influence, at least in part. A number of Esko children / grandchildren / g-grandchilldren I've known (including my own Taz) got into double figures.

Diamondgal, I have an Ursus grand-daughter who's currently 14 years old, so there's definitely longevity in those lines!

I'm afraid she's not going to make it to 15 - she has DM. :(

Hukka, I doubt they're littermates. I believe what the owner says about her age.

Sunny, Gwen's pedigree on here, as well as her info in OFA, show she was born in 2008, which makes her 13, not 16. Still a nice long run for a GSD. I'm sure she'll be missed terribly by her person.

Urk, that's embarrassing! I didn't see a birthdate on her pedigree when I looked at it last night! :o

Edit: I didn't see it because it wasn't THERE!! GSD Heritage snuck in and added the birthdate and OFA info last night!  :D

Sheesh, so I'm NOT going blind... 

So, yeah,  Gabi is a littermate!

I was going to say I regretted posting this because I had inaccurate information, and she didn't live to such an exceptional old age, but at least now the pedigree has been updated!
