Do you happen to know anything about the dog or his bloodlines? Looks like a French Ring exercise. If so, while those dogs are largely based on West German working lines, like any other sport, the dogs are selected from breedings that help them excel in the sport they were bred for. So GSDs bred for French Ring are smaller, more agile, have a higher threshold for defense, higher prey drive, etc. I doubt there are many if any GSD weighing 95 pounds participating in French Ring.

Apple, most importantly, when was this picture taken? Look at the style of clothes, glass frames on the faces of the people and especially that car in the background. I am going to say 70's....

Hund - see my post on page 8 (IIRC) about genetics and blue colour associated with health problems. In some cases it's not just a matter of a disqualifying (by breed standard) colour being unfavourable, but of genetic health issues with the blue colour gene.

i posted that pic in response to your claim about lack of agility of GSDs vs. malis.
the car in background is Trabant, was DDR brand.
hired dog is right. my guess picture (because of color) was taken perhaps somewhere in late 70s or even 80s, before reunification.

There are certainly very agile GSDs, but as a whole, Mals tend to be more agile and have more endurance.

why would you need such extreme?
even slowest GSD would be faster of any human. if GSD's weight isn't just a fat and fur, trust me, they well capable to manage and carre it in run and jumps.
i never have bothered to weight scale my dogs but i do remember on the see-saw swing my first dog at 2+ year was heavier than me at 11+ year of age and balance was reached with addition weight of my younger sister (3+y.o.). i assume he was somewhere between 50~60kg.
nevertheless, that dog very easily did over 2m vertical wall and 5m pit.
i told before and wanna to repeat - i know what GSD breed capable of, because have seen and owned outstandingly good in all respects dogs.
and to be honest, very frustrated to see present trend of malinization of GSD dogs in breeding selection.

The KNPV introduced pitbull blood as an outcross because the mal lacked certain traits like high pain threshold so they looked at what the mal lacks for it to be a successful LE dog. What does the GSD lack?

@xpyrotechnic

Then it's not a Malinois. It's a mixed breed.
