Recently I took some weight off my male shepherd, however I think that he is little too thin and would like to add about 5 pounds back on. He is very active - high energy.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to do this safely

Go back to feeding like you were when he got heavy, then slowly back off until he is no longer gaining or losing

I like to add oatmeal; good for them, very nutritious and mixes well with any kibble or food. I cook it rare and add l/2 to 1 cup to food 2 times per day depending on the weight of your dog.

All good ways to add weight . But I like to add weight mussel . So yes up the food maybe even a little higher than it was and what I would do is Hill running Tyre pulling and a swimming good warm up before starting any of these excise . Keep this short as you do not want to strip the condition you are adding good luck

If I feel I've taken a dog's weight down a bit more than I'd like, I don't got back to how I fed them to begin with--I'll increase the food by half the amount I originally reduced it. If I was feeding 3 cups of food, and I cut it back to 2 cups, I'll nudge the ration up to 2.5 cups and reassess over a few weeks' time.

How much excise do you give your dog and what type. This will always determine the amount of food the dog receives .
Also the quilty of the food will be a big factor .
