Lol, I love the free speech debate. You have free speech? Go into a store and yell I have a gun, go into a crowded place and yell fire, go into any business and start slamming, cutting down or whatever - let me know how that works out for you. If you want free speech - sit at home and say whatever you want to whoever will listen to you. This is a place of business and there are no rights here of you having free speech. Freedom of speech does not nor will it ever allow you to be rude, say whatever you want or say hurtful uncivil BS in a business. Those who bring up the free speech excuse to justify bad behavior are either confused or narcissist. PDB like any business has the right to set rules and interpret those rules anyway they see fit. Free speech is a right of ours to speak out against government and is nothing more than that. You don't have free speech here, trying slamming on Oli if you think you have the right to say whatever you want. I can guarantee the post a member made about another in this very thread would not have been posted if it was Oli being posted to. So, take your free speech and call government and put it to the only use it was ever intended because honestly if you think you have free speech in my house, my business or for that matter most businesses you would be wrong. It doesn't matter what you think is okay speech in a place of business, what matters is what the business thinks.

Did that attitude push people away - possibly but if it did so be it. It is this businesses right to allow what it wants.

The more I think about it and the more I read here the more I am in favor of only a like button. I have witnessed like/dislike stalking here. The "cool group" ganging up on a newer or unliked person and no matter what they post it was getting dislikes by the same members. Main reason they were removed.

This place is how YOU all make it, it always has been and it always will be. You want more people involved it has to start with every member. You build community how? By being rude, obnoxious, hurtful and uncivil? I don't think so. I somewhat get tired of the wishing for old times because a lot of those threads didn't always build community in a good way.

The only real difference with hitting an agree button vs posting to a thread with a thumbs up emoticon is one brings the thread back to the top and active while the other doesn’t.

Free speech is why holder gets to be rude and tell his people to kick Republicans ( when they don't tow the line)
And mad max gets to tell her followers to get in peples' face and tell them ' your not welcome here' ...in 'gasolene stations' and in shopping malls....
There are laws against yelling fire in a public place when there is none and why would anyone yell ' I have a gun' in a public place, unless they intend suicide?

What GSD admin said makes sense when you look at things from a business perspective. I tend to look at the database as a public forum, but it’s Oli’s place of business and from that perspective I can see why there is a need for moderation and a TOS.
If I owned a business I would be very conscientious about the type of shenanigans I allowed there. From Oli’s standpoint it’s no different.

Southernluv~ time for a new shirt 🤐

Vito-
The chipmunk made me crack up...Good one!

Beetree writes:
„I disagree with Jesse on quite a few of her premises because my experiences are not hers and there is no way she can predict why anyone actually does anything. Still a bit wet behind the ears, here, so the free and easy speech thing ... probably does feel real to her.“

Me:
I don‘t write that I predict with certainty why any one does anything...I write that people MIGHT, or that I THINK, or a MAYBE, or THERE MIGHT BE TENDENCIES. I don‘t write in absolutes. Of course I don‘t write for everyone, that goes without saying. Everything I write is JMO. I really don‘t like these word games that occasionally pop up here. I think most everyone knows what I meant.

I write „free and easy conversing tone here. Which I enjoy“.
Cricky, I‘m not talking about First Amendment rhetoric or allowing uncalled for rudeness. No need to get all political here. The term I use „free and easy“ means RELAXED and not to get stressed about every little thing one might want to say, because of a dislike button, that is totally meaningless in substance and can be turned into a gadget for bullying. But, as I‘ve said in the previous post, of course it is up to the owner of this site as to how to run it, as it should be.

Green behind the ears...nice to be called that when one is over 60. LOL, preciate it, makes me feel young again.

Jesse,

When you say you don’t speak or mean to come across in absolutes and then want to dismiss my humble opinion by making accusations of word games which they are not, and then declaring what someone else wrote as “going without saying” that would seem to be a conflict of thoughts.

My comment about you being ‘wet behind the ears’ had nothing to do with your age.

I enjoy your posts, happy posting! Have a nice day!

Me-
If that quote is not a word game, I don‘t know what is. Maybe my brain doesnt work that way with twists and turns. What I WRITE does not go for everyone, which goes without saying, as what anyone here writes does not apply to everyone.
I know what you mean with green behind the ears. No, I’ve only been here for about a year on PDB. But long enough to know most of the regulars. I think I have free speech here...why wouldn’t I? I don‘t sell dogs, I don‘t sell training, I‘m just here to talk dog. I don‘t understand the cryptic meaning of „green behind the ears“.

Nor can I tell if your last line is sarcastic.
If it is meant in earnest, and I hope it is....I do thank you and truly enjoy your post too.
