I like this topicTeeth SmileTeeth Smile

What about that hundreds KNPV maligators every year get imported from  Holland to all that police /military departments and private owners in the USThumbs Up

by duke1965 on 06 October 2018 - 12:10

black malinois, also malinois from holland cannot be shipped by united animore, but the majority of policedogs doesnot ship with united but KLM mostly, to all direct flight destinations

airlines are getting more and more difficult, also has to do with animal wellfare  so to speak, some airlines and airports make you ship a normal dog in a crate size swimmingpool, becouse , if he stands up, his ears touch the top of crate

@ hundmutter dogs do get out of these crates, one did trough the side, the other one, if trip took little more time, he would have chewed trough, also, jaw power is not limited to molars LOL, front teeth are also in the jaw

finally, if we would have better quality crates less dogs would be able to get out and less problems would occur during flights, and  its the problems that make the airlines change their policies

"& its the problems that make the airlines change their policies."
Evidence ? Maybe if that is true, the airlines should tell prospective customers that's their reasoning. Not apparently the case for United.

Have shipped over those years about 30 X malinois/dutch shepherds  to the US always do good business with VCK logistics here in Holland no problems with transport and crates and kennels.

I will contact them this week whats going on

you are clueless obviously, the shipper doesnot make the rules, the airline does, and it is common knowledge that united has a banned dogs list already some time

But Prager was still clearly surprised by United's list. If he can be, so can others. And if as Yogi says the shippers are not reporting many problems, what is it that the airline is baseing it's policy on ? Or is it what I suggested, a disgusting and ignorant way to go on getting money until it takes a final decision not to transport animals at all ? So have you got shares in United or something, that you seem keen to defend its behaviour, Duke ? J.K.  (I hope).

Sure some airlines are slowely wanting to stop animal transports. Especially American based airlines.
So much goes wrong, extreme high temperatures here in summers (I know there is a moratorium when temps get too high), unschooled ground baggage employees (! Big problem!), crappy cages built to hold only mild mannered dogs at best even if FTA approved, and most importantly, suing the airline when something goes wrong. AND a lot does go wrong with animal transports in the states. Maybe not a super high ratio when looking at total numbers, but high enough to be a headache for airlines....not to mention the bad press when a dog dies or runs around the tarmac and gets killed. Happens all the time.
I now only use cages I buy from Lufthansa. They are the best IMO but expensive. Even a Mali and other “strong jaws” would have a real hard time getting out of them. They have almost no bite surface. But, I have bought other boxes that appalled me with the flimsiness, and have returned them all.

I often think that if I were as rich as Gates, Bezos, or Elon Musk, I would by a Pet airline for fun....and make half the cabin as kennel boxes with a connecting door to the human cabin. No joke, I bet there are enough people that would pay twice the amount of their ticket price (probably A lot more than that!) to bring their dogs along this way. Even putting up with barking - better than crying babies sometimes. Smaller space allotment, more money for airlines. The amount of people with dogs that will do anything to make sure they are safe and with them is huge, this might even work. I can dream can’t I? In the meantime, I’ll just buy or lease a private jet...which I did look into once...haha. No go.

Probably true, Jesse ! Maybe we have a better time of it with shorter European journeys, but things still go wrong sometimes.  [Just not statistically enough to justify stupid blanket single-breed policies ?]

not defending anything hund, but if plane arrivés and dogs are free running in cargo space there might be a problem, so all im saying is that if crates where what they used to be there would be less problems

Duke stop buying flimsy sh1t. I buy  Petmate Sky Kennel ( Not Pet mate Compass or  Vari kennel.....)  with 4-way latch and I drill holes for plastic strips for extra security and I have NEVER had a problem. Those crates may be little more expensive but can be then used for years afterward. An imagehttps://www.dog.com/item/petmate-sky-kennel-pet-carrier/101554/

As far as I am concerned these are good sturdy crates and I recommend them.  I would not buy any cheaper crates then these. When I ship my own dogs I may use metal crates.
