I think its brillant, and common sense...building confidence, and teaching the dog to think, instead of react because of drives alone. Hard to explain what I mean, hopefully someone will understand...lol

Don't understand the op's question as regards video with teaching dog to jump into vehicle to bite.
I don't believe this is training for civilian personal protection...if a bad guy is fleeing in a vehicle, then the threat to the civilian is gone. Civilian sending a dog after a fleeing bad guy is going to get dog owner in big trouble with the law....unless the bad guy has done something like kidnapped a kid and fleeing with the kid.

Personally I'm inclined to agree with Joanro; although I do believe PSA teaches this sort of thing to all-comers, based on vids I've seen of theirs. On their own heads be it, I suppose.

Yes, HerBazhan, it's common sense, no matter the exercise.

I use to train my personal protection dogs on the same scenarios as police dogs (trained alongside the police). Of course, I would not deploy my personal dog like a police K-9 but the dogs had fun doing it and exposing them to all sorts of different things made them better dogs. There is nothing mystifying or secretive in training a police K-9.

Susie: It's about the kind of training, not the car...😎
Me: Susie, the video is titled "Vehicle Bite Work"....sooo, yes it was focused on teaching the dog to apprehend by jumping into a moving vehicle. You should watch the vid, before posting. The guy is a good trainer for his purpose and watching will give you more information per topic.

I am appalled not at the training exercise , I worked canines with State Police .. I understand the value and purpose in certain situations of the training . However , the fact that the demo is out there for civilians to copy .. . Yes Jo .. you are spot on..
Do you people understand the liability you would face if your dog ever did that and in the process killed someone for stealing a car ? And to add more : if that thief went 10 feet and stopped , if you tried to out that dog and it did not out , you might very well have a law suit on your hands . If that dog bit a jugular, or femoral artery severely maiming a person or that person died, you might go to jail in some USA states for a very long time . Jo is so spot on .. how the hell are you going to defend yourself when there is not threat to you ?
BTW for those new : In the state I trained state police dogs when a dog was sent to apprehend there was no ' call off ' . That means the officer did not call the dog off the bite once the dog was sent. The policy was that the officer gave the criminal three loud clear warnings to cease /stop before the dog was sent. Then once the dog was sent , all was fair . Why was this policy ? Because in that state if the dog was sent and the criminal stopped resulting in the dog being called off the bite and the dog bit the criminal, the officer / police dept. was in big legal trouble. The criminal would get a fancy lawyer and the lawyer in court would ask " officer did you call your dog off and did you tell the dog stop the bite but he continued anyway , right ? That is an officer of the law , . What chance if you are civilian would you have.
That is a very very foolish thing the average person should do with their dog . Stupid , just plain old stupid. To put something like that out to the public .. Heavens .... No this is not an Impressive video . I am not in the least impressed .. big deal the dog can jump in a vehicle and bite.. that's not all that outstanding BTW !!.. there is plenty we can do in protection work , and years ago KNVP trials had dogs apprehending people riding on bicycles .. big deal the dog bites in a truck . Stupid just plain old stupid .
PS .. Jo , good to know someone has common sense .....
