My male is too tall to breed, help?? - Page 1

Breeding my male GSD for the first time, he is tall and the female is avg. he cant seem to get it figured out. hopefully others here have had that problem and can offer some suggestions, thanks!!

40 years ago I had an Australian/Husky x weighed 70 pounds...he managed to breed the neighbors dachshund. How'd he do it? He was standing in a hole he had dug when I found them .....

Normal   Is your male way tall over 27" and the female very small under 22"

He is not experienced enough you can help him with desired location if you wish and he does not care.

I prefer to let him learn on his own EVEN if I do not get a breeding.

I think once males need and get help they don't try enough on their own and it makes them weaker breeder.

If he cannot figure it out then consider him not breed worthy

So true Joanro I was going to add that I usually let them be in a open pen field that the ground is uneven. For a rather large female she went to the low side of a bank and he went high.

Well he better figure it out (G) or he wont get any. Put him up for a bit so he isnt discourage and you can try let them at it again later. Dogs with good libedo will figure it out regardless of bitch size etc.Males who dont easily figure it out should not be used in my opinon. I bet yours will. Good luck.

Breeding a Virgin male to a Virgin female isn't always the best way anyways...It's always better to have one experienced to help the other...but...
When I can...and both dogs are safe...I prefer to have them in a fenced in area and just let them run together...
Sometimes...and with some dogs...you need to just have them breed and no socializing...
Your male WILL figure it out if just left alone...Don't rush or push the idea...They can find a little incline where the size difference can be worked out...

thanks for the input, he is not lacking the drive and yes ive put him up for the night and am going to try in the am.

for the record Im breeding low drive service dogs, my male is perfect for what he is being used for but wont be jumping through any windows or biting much more than a porkchop-- he spends most of his day "chillin" lol

Low drive and low libido generally have nothing to do with each other.Stamina is necessary though so a male in top condition is important.

If you have no luck in the morning and she is ready, green males will try to early, then he may be like most of the males I have owned they prefer 12am to 4am.
