Extra's sire and dam are both apparently pattern sables (one sable gene and one blk and tan gene). They passed only their black and tan genes to their daughter, Extra, or Extra would have BEEN sable as well, since sable is dominant and never recessive. (Note that Extra had sable littermates). Since she is black and tan, this is the only possible scenario for her color genetics. Since Extra does not carry black, they should produce dark (blanket back) black and tan, as well as classic saddleback black and tan. It all depends on how the genes fall, as each parent contributes one color gene for each pup. Post when the litter is born and let us know what she actually whelps.

Cute! Congrats on a healthy litter. I like the marking on the black and tan one.

Shiny, fat babies. Congrats. One is definitely black and tan...almost looks like the early markings of a reverse mask. Might be another black and tan in there, too. My bicolor pups are always solid black at birth except for under tail. No facial markings until at least a few weeks later.

thanks, I had two reversed masks in litter of Extra but dont remember what they looked like at birth, personally I like the bicolours more than b/t but this B/T pup is big and strong female so probably will stay with me if all goes well with her
