The dog had talent, too. He could still bark with the stick in his mouth.

A wall in the back, no chance to escape...
- fight or flight -
when there is no flight possible even some otherwise untalented dogs will start to fight.
Shitty training, was bad decades ago, still is, and for sure will be in the future.

Traditionally they picked on the genetically incapable breeds like mastiffs, gladiator breeds, catch dogs with the false totally incorrect belief that decades of selection for animal aggression translates naturally to man aggression.
I predicted that crowd would turn their focus to the herders and that they did.
More shame on breeders for not vetting who they sell pups to, but let not ethics get in the way of a puppy sale.

What do you mean decades ago? Yes, that was the norm back then and how I was introduced into protection, but it is still used today, maybe not 100% of the time.
This decoy and handler are two of the worst trainers i have ever seen. That doesnt mean that you cannot use civil agitation, a stick and walls to enhance the dogs defense effectively. To say that these tools are outdated and no longer needed is foolish. People that can correctly read a dog, can effectively use these tools and the dog ends the session with more confidence than go in.
Protection work doesn't necessarily always need or should be a big game of frisbee.
Oh, and that dog was gased because no fight lasts that long. Working a dog always in defense will usually result in shallow frontal bites, but that last bite, there was no way that dog could bite full. He was out of breath.
