Interested in these breeds because I have seen very little of them. They are originally working dogs, but I have only really seen them as pets. Does anyone have personal experience? I have looked into working breeders for these breeds in the US and haven't found much. Share anything!

BRTs are infamous for allegedly being aggressive and unstable. Back in the day a lot of trainers would refuse to train BRTs. However, western breeders now really breed them for a good temperament. The one BRT I've met in person has been watered down to pet quality.

I've groomed both G. schnauzers and BRTs Both were from show dog lines. The BRT were better mannered then the schnauzers, but have a mega ton of easily matted and difficult to groom coat. The GS were quicker to bite and always seem to have poor grooming manners, Basically they were spoiled brats and tried to get away with murder, if they didn't they tried to bite you.
Neither were great dog for the area i live in (Florida) too much coat and they both require almost daily grooming unless you planned to have them shaved down quarterly. I also hate dogs with stinky and dirty faces, hence why i will never own a bearded breed. Big or small.
You probably won't find any actual working breeders in the US because these dogs are bred for coat only and as Fervious mentioned they are pretty watered down. Same with the Aridales.

We had a BRT at the club. He was young, but already big enough to be a handful to control. I can't tell you much about him, because the s*** that owned him rarely came to training. However, I do know the trainer said the dog had a strong civil streak, and he worried about him, because the owner was a novice. I got the feeling he really wasn't spending enough time on training the dog, either on the field or at home.

The trainer himself knew a fair bit about civil dogs. He had a bouvier that he'd trained to Sch. 3. They'd completed all 3 phases, and the judge said they'd passed, and reached out to shake his hand.

The dog went for him and nailed him on the arm. Ooops. No Sch 3.... :(

Honestly, I've had BRTs. Imports only. Honestly some of the most BADASS dogs I have ever owned. I have also had a giant (s&p import from germany) I'd rather go with the BRT, loads of aggression but mine were always stable. As with any working dog you must search out titled, health tested parents that have proven themselves worthy to breed. American dogs can be trash and overly social like labs which is very against the breeds function. The black terrier is supposed to be the dog that makes people prefer the bullet. They're supposed to be very aggressive, standoffish and confident. I personally adore the breed but currently have 2 mal's and a german shepherd a brt isn't the brightest idea at the moment.

if your looking for something kinda sketchy and extremely serious - go with a well bred brt
if your looking for more of a active pet/sport prospect - go with a giant
