IMO I believe that most dogs will become equipment trained unless you do two things. Use some agitation. Train in different locations, situations, etc...Not always at a normal training area.

Of course! Couldn't agree more. Without the agitation work even with changing areas and situations you still might get equipment happy dogs. But, some people like that. It's not for me though.

The KNPV method of dog training has it right. The goal is to make sure the dog is suitable to be put in service. To train a dog for schutzund with using routine trial based training only is rediculous. Variety must and should be added to training to aleviate boredom and test hardness. Bitesuit training is a great way to change things up for the sport dog. Kyle

so this is an old thread that could use some more input.

how does agitation make a dog not equipment orientated?  isnt  a bite suit a piece of equipment? 

i change areas where i train my dog, but its not to aleve boredom, its to make sure my dog can work  anywhere, anytime i ask them to.
