At 3 months old my pup's ears both stood straight up. Suddenly at five months and two weeks his left ear dropped. Is anyone else going through this? Will it go back to normal? Could it be teething and how long will this last? I miss both ears up!!

He's probably in a period in which changing teeth discomfort couse the ears to drop a bit.check for teeth missing .the ear should go back up before the sixth month. Good luck

More then likely adult teeth caused this. Don't worry normal. Planty of chews pigs ears. Good quality food with crunch.

There's not a deadline as to when the ears come back up during teething, so don't hedge on before six month age.

Not to worry; this is only the beginning of the growth spurts these GSD go thru; but really if it was up unless she injured it somehow, pretty sure it will come back up. Be sure you give her lots and lots of very hard rubber chew toys as that is one way they can strengthen those jaw and ear muscles by chewing. Real bones (x-large) if you are right there with her, otherwise, maybe the souper sized Nylabones. Be patient though, she will grow and change a lot in her lifetime. Good luck with her, pic's would be nice though. Nan

Take lots of pics at this stage - I personally think the one ear up/one down time is the cutest for puppy pics.

I went through a similar issue with my puppy. They were up. They were down. One was up, then down and the other ear went up. AND, she chewed up toys like a shark on seals. I would follow the advice given previously that if both ears were ever up, they will almost certainly return to that position once the teething is over, unless there's an accident or injury.

What I've heard/read/experienced concerning GSD ears is that they can and will be all over the place for at least the first six months, broadly speaking. Sometime past six months, there is a possibility that the cartilage can begin to crease and that can potentially create some issues, but it is rare for the ears to not stand up on their own, eventually. Every dog has its own timeline.

Lots of people think the "lop ear" look is great. Personally, I think the "alert ear" is something of a trademark feature of the breed. Best of luck to you raising your pup!
