New to this. How would one go about advertising their German Shepherd for studding? thanks!

by Laural H on 17 August 2015 - 21:08

I will make a list the points I look for in a dog that is advertised you can go from there This is the very least that an Advertisement should tell me

First I would make sure to spell the breed of my dog correctly

Next list all his accomplishments at recognized Breed clubs  If you haven't done this then join and do so

Be sure to have Pro type photos or those of equal quality  and those of his sons and daughters.  You have to show what he can do to make it worth my time  If you have not used him yet then you will need to wait to stud him until you can show that he is worth  to be used

List a pedigree

List all health test that have been checked  If you have  not done this then you have time

What is the Fee   do you do live coverage, or shipped  Do you know how to do this  What are your guarantees.

What experience do you have with dogs   You will need to prove that you can take care of mine.

There is a lot more I want to know but AI will get that from you when/if I call

And, of course, where are you located

Hope this helps

Laurel has given a good Starting list.

I have one question: HOW and WHO are you going to Breed to/? WHAT females are you looking to breed to and how will you CHOOSE?

DO make sure your dog is Health tested with certificates of proof

Be ready with knowledge about your blood line.. THat means you know about the sire and the Dam and the traits and the litter mates of your dog.

Breeding a dog is as important as picking a mate..for us humans so just be ready..
The serious breeder has a big time chore

YOU must be ready for failures, females that lose litter, females who don't breed ,
Are you ready to school the females owner on how you want to handle all the things that go wrong and do you feel you can accept the way the person takes care of your Males pups in the litter born ?
Many a friendship has been lost over Studding ones dog or even getting into using a stud.

Lots of good advice given above.
If you can't spell the breed name correctly, perhaps you aren't quite knowledgeable enough to be breeding GSDs. JMO.

Though OP misspelled the breed name in the post title, he/she spelled it alright in the context

Let's show him/her the best of us, one correct spelling - one incorrect spelling = 0 incorrect spelling ( he/she is ok to me if the male dog is worth breeding) Teeth Smile

First you get his hips/elbows x-rays,and ofa or SV certified, then breed survey, and a IPO or other FCI recognized title (which will only take you 3 to 4 days a week in training, and every Saturday you have for about 3 years). By this time you should have a good understanding of your boy, and what qualities to match him with what female. “not every male is suitable for every female. Just like every man is not suitable for every women.” Max Von Stephanitz, Best advice would be go to a local IPO club, and ask lots of questions.

Ah...If only every breeder would follow these suggestions Confused Smile.

@Chief Tom - Just asking out of curiosity, but why do want to Stud your GSD out?

by xbitetab on 18 August 2015 - 21:08

Chief TOM: I am gonna go out on a big limb and make this my last post to you

YOU have a DAMN good pedigree behind your male

Get him ofa Hips and Elbows, and go work to his first title IPO 1 and then

BUY YOUR OWN FEMALE BITCH to breed your own litters.!!!

YOUR male is too nice to spare the punches and even put him into the MAY GET STD's from someones bitch , which even BRUCELOSIS IS highly contagious if not tested properly...
