Looking for suggestions on either reasonable shipping company or best airlines to ship an adult male GSD from Quebec to Minneapolis/St Paul airport. Also, does the dog have to go thru customs if only coming from Canada? I've shipped in several adults from Europe, but not Canada. Thanks for any input!

My female (then a 5-month old puppy) was shipped 4 years back from Canada to MSP, via Air Canada. I picked her up from the cargo area next to the airport. Drove into the airport, presented my ID etc at the airport customs area and they applied the stamp on the paperwork, which I carried back to the cargo location (next to the airport) and picked her up.  The whole thing took half and hour.   No hassles whatsoever.

You may run into a problem with the crate size. Regional Jets can't handle a 500 or larger.

What airport in Quebec will the dog be departing from?

Montreal (YUL) airport. I was worried about the plane size and kennel size not jiving.

If the dog is for "commercial purposes" you will need a broker. I have run into complications crossing land borders.

Ellen Chance is a broker out of Atlanta that should be able to help if your dog is going to be anything more than a pet. Her prices seemed very reasonable vs the dog being denied entry. I am sorry I do not have her information handy.

I believe importing from Canada has the same requirements as importing from any other foreign country.

Montreal is a major airport and the big airlines such as Delta, US Airways make the flight if that's what you're worried about.
