GSDfan

I'm very sad to see my female start showing signs of discomfort/stiffness for the first time at 5 yrs old. She was diagnosed with moderate HD on one side at 2 yrs (OFA). I wanted to know if I should try asprin first or just go right to Rimadyl. At this point it just seems stiff, she's not reluctant to do anything and is still as active as normal. Thanks, Melanie

I give my nine year old which she will be ten this November, I give her HyaFlex. It is Hyaluronic acid, as well as joint health, and fresh factors from springtime it's all natural and she acts just like a huge puppy in the snow. She had an injury to her knee when she was young, and now it's effecting her. She has a hard time getting up and this stuff I think is working. If you want to check it out go to, www.hyaflex.com or kvvets.com and the springtime is www.springtimeinc.com this is all natural, I don't personally like my dog's or even me for that matter to have drugs in our system, if you can find a healthier way. Look into this procedure http://www.wholepetvet.com/goldbead.php You will probably have to find a naturopathic vet to do it. We had a dog whose hips were so bad they weren't even inthe sockets. She was a very large dog and had this surgery done on both hips. She lived totally pain free until 8 when she was PTS due to heart failure. I would do the surgery again in a heartbeat.

Thanks all. I recently swiched from the glucosomine suppliment "curaflex" to "Joint Strong" which contains Hyaluronic Acid so hopefully that'll help. I think this has more to do with her recent inactivity due to the weather and icy conditions. She's normally excersised often and has just experienced a couple weeks being couped up. Today was the first time out so she looked a bit stiff. Otherwise acting normal. thanks, melanie

Side effects associated with Rimadyl. Serious adverse reactions associated with this drug class can occur without warning and in rare situations result in death. http://www.rimadyl.com/display.asp?country=US&lang=EN&drug=RC&species=CN&sec=400

If you go on that site www.hyaflex.com the HA isn't mixed so you get a 100% of the HA otherwise when anything gets mixed you will not get the full potiential of the HA or even glucosamine. I usually buy from www.puritan.com and get glucosamine by it's self and MSM by it's self so you can get the full potential of it working for you, or your dog's. Anyway good luck with her!!

Renofan2

Melanie: 6 weeks ago my vet recommended Metacam for Reno instead of the Rimadyl (due to the risk of liver problems associated with Rimadyl). Reno was not able to walk before starting her on the Metacam 1x per day and she has shown some excellent signs of improvement (as much of an improvement a 14 year old dog can have). Of course she is alot older than Chili, so not sure of the risks associated with putting a much younger dog on Metacam, but it definately works. Cheryl

I think everyone should check out www.springtimeinc.com and NO I am not a distributor I use it on my 9 year old GSD and have had a lot of improvement in her and it's all natural no side affects. I really like this product and they will send you a free catalog so you can check out everything in it. They even have stuff for horses and a lot of references in their own catalog. JMO
