My pet clients get about 50/50  +R / compulsion.  Simply put teaching a dog to do something reliably and consistently in the face of distraction in a limited amount of time requires very clear communication.

If the dog is not recalling, heeling, downing all under heavy real world distraction I have not delivered my end of the deal.  My primary tools are prong and e collar.  Requires minimal effort to deliver clear pressure and easy to teach to newbies.  Most pet dogs are soft, so if anything these tools are even more effective with them.

The training is fast and the clients are happy with reliable obedience that makes their dogs that much easier to live with.

Still some days I think I should switch to the way most training schools do it.  Lure fluffy around with treats in a classroom.  Let the puppies "socialize". Teach Fluffy some cute tricks and give everyone a fancy certificate at the end of the class.  It would be quicker and easier  :).

Sport training is a completely different ball game, also those dogs are generally stronger in every way.

haz, i don't think you would make it that world you are describing. the trick is far as i can tell is making people feel great about themselves and their dogs no matter how not great they are. i did it for a while in the horse world with mainly really over-weight old made women with lots of time and cash.

the cash is there for the taking but.....

you just don't strike me as that kind of guy, jmo.

Haha probably true.  The thing is most of those "trainers" cannot train their own personal dogs to any acceptable level so they really dont know any better makes them that much more believable.
