City dogs eat Honest Kitchen Teeth Smile.

Kudos to you who can butcher. I'm sure it's the best thing for your dogs, but I just can't, never could.  I can't even kill a rooster. I have to buy my meat at the local butchershop. Don't hate me for being a whimp.

I like coconut oil for myself and the dog. Great stuff!

Country people can't afford to feed Honest Kitchen Tongue Smile

Joanro do you think one could get as good  meat to bone ratio from a sheep as good as a goat

I feed mostly raw human grade chicken leg quarters to my adult GSD dogs .. WalMart, Food Lion, or other Food Market Grocery chains carry 10 pound bags frozen for 69-79 cents per pound and I feed 1 1/2 to 2 pounds per day and my dogs are fat in the winter when they get less exercise.   Occassionally I will feed some kibble and organ meat such as liver.  Red meat if I can get it on sale as a special treat. GSD puppies get chicken, liver, kibble ( if they want it ), milk, pork and beef with finely ground prepared chicken beef frozen such as Blue Ridge Beef Puppy Mix up to 3 months of age.  I also give probiotic and some vitamins to puppies during the exponential growth phase ( ie up to 6 months usually).  High animal protein and high animal fat with low carbohydrate diet.  Animal fat is the energy source of choice and not plant based carbohydrates or fats.

Western Rider: I don't Grind...I give my dogs RAW Chicken Leg Quarter...(for dinner)...Bones and all...They chew the bones and are good for their jaws and for keeping their teeth clean and in good shape...I begin my puppies on RAW Chicken at 3 weeks of age...then add more and more bone until they can handle it all...My puppy now started eating a whole RAW Chicken Leg Qtr at 7 weeks of age...He eats one every evening...

In the morings my dog get TOTW with Veggies and stuff...Including "DE" and "Apple Cider Vinegar"...

I give my dogs some Coconut Oil everyday and use it on myself or a lot of things...I also use it on my dogs for cuts and can be used for more things...

Western, if its a meat sheep I think so. Sheep tend to have more fat than goats, so the weight might be fat and muscle. I have butchered a huge ram, ews and young ones for the dogs...I don't eat sheep. Goat is cost effective if you take the prime for yourself and feed the rest to the dogs. I have a two yr old whether here now that probly weighs 150, a Boer. Lots of meat on him. Give him another yr and he'll grow some more.

I forgot to mention the Vinegar feed that too

You had said you used a lot of veggies so thought that you might be grinding your meat and veggies together

I grind the babies food and start them on it as soon as the eyes start to open, of course, it is just gruel on my finger rubbing it in their mouths to start and work up to the chicken necks then the 1/4's

Yes Bubba I check all the ads and go to the ethnic markets as well. There I can get some different items.

Use dried chicken hearts and livers  for training.  Might be why they eat me most of the time.

I have been feeding K9kravings to my dogs for 9 years now. I find it much more affordable than other prepared raw diets and for me it is cheaper than trying to make it myself. K9Kravings is approved for human consumption by the USDA.

Markobytes:  do you add anything to the K9 Kravings?  Supplments or otherwise?  Just curious as mine were doing fine then they were not?  Was not sure why or if I should add anything to this formula?  Owner/manufacturer I talked with said just maybe add a little water as it was a pretty pure food and somewhat consentrated...  Thx in advance  Nan
