I would like some opinions and to read some experiences of those of you who have fed or do feed Eureka or K-9 Kraving. I am open to other recommendations for complete raw diets as well.

Thanks!

In her book, "Canine Nutrigenomics" Dr. Jean Dodds recommends the following freeze dried and raw dog foods:

Answers Pet Food, Aunt Jenni's Home Made, Bravo, Darwins Natural Pet Products, Grandma Lucy's, Nature's Variety, Primal Pet Food, Stella and Chewies, The Honest Kitchen, Ziwi Peak.

Fresh Prepared Meals - Just Food for Dogs

Freeze Dried veggie "premixes" - Dr. Harvey's, Sojos's. The Honest Kitchen.

If you need websites, let me know. Do you have Jean's book?

What kind of cost comparison can be made between freeze dried and prepared raw foods? Also with raw, the cost of fresh prepared vs. frozen?

Koots, I just looked at honest kitchen for my dog because of the ingredient list and a single box, about 2 weeks worth of feeding a dog my size is $100 meaning that it would cost $200 a month to feed one single dog....not even close to what I will pay for dog food.

Petflow sells a 10 lb bag of Honest Kitchen dehydrated raw for 93.09, free delivery to the door. It will make 40 lbs when reconstituted.

They offer other formulas of dehydrated raw for $63.69 to $112.69 for 10 lbs.

I just purchased this and will add my own protein sources. It cost just under $57 for a 7 lb bag. free shipping, and 12% discount on the first auto ship order.

Base-mix

Just add meat! Preference grain-free and gluten-free dog food is a base-mix made with sweet potatoes, coconut, pumpkin, celery and more. This natural, human grade 'foundation diet' offers an easy way to make homemade dog food recipes in your own kitchen. Preference meat-free dog food takes care of all the prep work, so you can add whichever meat or fish you would like.

Preference dehydrated dog food is an excellent option for dogs who do better without common protein sources (like chicken, turkey or beef), can’t tolerate white potatoes, or who just enjoy a little variety.

1 cup makes 1 lb of fresh food; a 7 lbs bag makes 29 lbs of base mix.

Thats absurd! It'd be much more logcal to go buy a two hundred pound goat, butcher  it, and use the whole thing put up in the freezer.

The cost of dog food really is out of control. The Honest Kitchen at $93 for 40 lbs is close to what some are paying for Orijen et al. I have nowhere to keep goats and even if I did I'd have to pay someone to butcher them and I'd have to go out of the county when it happened. So I think I'll keep feeding something that is already dead and devoid of fur.
