Blitzen, that's why they get away with the price gouging. I can get goats, butcher them, de-bone the meat, pack organ meat, green tripe, bones ....put up in my box freezer, for a better price...plus ship. Anyone interested, get back to me.

It's CRAZIER and CRAZIER...I mean Dog Food is costing more then People Food...And it seems they're eating better then we are...

We buy 120 lbs of Chicken Leg Quarters...40 lbs of Boneless Chicken Breasts...and 30 lbs of Ground Turkey...A WEEK...And that's 1/2 of our dog food for the week...We also buy Vegetables...Green Beans...Greens...Carrots...etc...Probably about 10 lbs of each...per week...

Like I said...The dogs eat better then we do...It's getting Crazy...!

It's not so bad when you're only feeding 1 or 2 dogs, but more than that and I'd have to take out a mortgage. I only have 1 now and I plan to keep it that way.

Q-Man do you grind up your food

I have been feeding raw over 20 years never feed anthing but meat and bones. Over the years have added coconut oil and ground kelp just recently  have started adding DE

Mostly the meat is chicken because of the cost have never had a problem

Joanro like the goat idea but why do you debone it,  I would feed it with the bones

western rider why coconut oil ? never used that used other oils how much meat would be on the bone and what animal .probably sounds stupid but would take a lot of bone to fill a dog

There is quite a bit of meat on pork or beef neck bones same with chicken or turkey necks.  Chicken leg 1/4's and Turkey legs have plenty of meat.

You shop around and find many things that have enough meat and bones.  You should not JUST feed meat you need to add bones as well.

You would be surprised at how little meat only needs to be on the bones which are ediible. Not the one they use to chew on only.

But if you consider how little meat if any is in dry dog food then it should not really be a surprise at how little meat  they need.

Western, de-boning makes it a lot easier to package for freezing. Also, the long bones of the goat splinter the same way deer bones splinter. They can be extremely hazardess to a dog. The neck, back, pelvis are good to feed, especially from animals less than a year....the best age to butcher for feeding raw is six months or less. Quarter them and feed intact. The stomache from adult animals is best however. Also, I discard the lungs. I have never had any canid, including straight wolf, wolf hybrid, hounds r gsd that would eat the lungs and trachia. The lungs can be a souce of disease such as bacteria that I believe gives the canids instinct to reject. I'm not talking about a starving animal. The only thing I've seen eat lungs is vultures...even the coyotes leave them. It is very common for commercial processors to include lung. I bought some ground organ meat from a butcher. My dogs were reluctant to eat it. Turns out it contained lungs. Had the guys grind some without the lung and the dogs scarfed it up.

I have used bone meal added to chunks beef. When I butcher a cow for the dogs, there is way more muscle meat than bone. Worked fine.

Joanro  my dogs love tracheas. Mine do eat lung but it was from Emu's and other big birds. Never had any other kind.

Never had the chance to butcher a cow for the dogs. Was thinking of going to the Auction sometime and get one just for this but the prices have gone up so high even for the culls not worth it at this time. Not going to cut up one that has been hay fed for the dogs not cost efficient and probably get some fire works in the home for that one. LOL

No pasture here all are raised on bought feed.  Goats may try, the Boers have a good meat ratio.

Yogi the coconut oil is for the extra bloom on the coat for showing among other things.  Search this site for coconut oil been talked about a lot.
