Kerschberger

Though my dog does not have DM, she has something neurological ongoing loosing her perfect sense of balance.  She is age 11+ 5 weeks now, and has been treated with DHYZ aka Di Huang Yin Zi for 2 months which showed IMMEDIATE dramatic improvement and continues to do so.   Recently a friend who has a 14 year old dog with a different neuro disorder started her dog on it.   It also worked for her dog.

Initially, my vet, http://hollyjohnsondvm.com/ told me she had been perscribing it to a dog which had DM with success, though eventually the dog succumbed to it, though it gave the dog more control for a better quality of life, and felt it may benefit my 11 year old.  What I know from Chinese herbs is that they work for me very well.     After the first scoop her balance returned.

Having had two dogs succumb to DM, I wish I would have had this vet then to help my dog through this horrific genetic disease. Therefor, I felt the need to help those dogs still suffering from it, and their owners suffering right along, to pass on this very helpful quality of life product.

Please pass on the information to your veterinarians.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE:

This study investigated the safety and therapeutic efficacy of Di Huang Yin Zi (DHYZ), a traditional Chinese decoction used to treat neurological disorders, in spinal cord injury (SCI).

METHODS:

In this double-blind, placebo-controlled study, patients with traumatic SCI and American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) impairment grades B-D were randomized to receive DHYZ (n = 30) or placebo (n = 30) for 12 weeks. Both groups also received rehabilitation therapy during the study period. Motor and sensory function and activities of daily living (ADL) were assessed before treatment and at 4-week intervals.

RESULTS:

Significantly more patients in the DHYZ group showed an improved ASIA impairment grade during the treatment period (32.1%) compared with the placebo group (10.3%), and scores for sensory and motor function and ADL at the end of the treatment period were significantly higher in the DHYZ group than in the placebo group. No serious side-effects were reported.

CONCLUSIONS:

DHYZ was found to improve neurological function in patients with SCI and may be an effective adjuvant therapy to enhance functional recovery.

Thank you for sharing this valuable information, I currently have an 8 l/2 yeard old Samoyed male that I feel is going to need something, fairly soon.  Not DM as I had him tested but definitely spinal and neuro??  go figure.  Will look this up and try to order for him and myself (SCI).  Was wishing someone would come up with something.  Nan

This disease is not necessarily of genetic origin. i am sorry about your plight but I would look into other possibilities since you had 2 dogs. I have had tens to hundreds of dogs with me from pup to death or just to death and I have never seen DM in my dogs and I am not exceptionally lucky guy . So to say that it is genetic and have 2 dogs with DM is very unlikely if it is of genetic origin. My vet say that is is of genetic origin or due to environmental causes. Both. Again I am sorry about your dogs but Iwould dig deeper and would not be content with genetic explanation.

It is suspected DM is an immune-mediated disease somewhat like MS in people. The dog’s immune system attacks its nervous system.

Other theories of why DM occurs include toxins, vitamin deficiencies, oxidative stress, or an underlying spinal injury.

Because DM is prevalent in certain breeds, a genetic component is likely. Recent research has identified a mutation in a gene that confers a greatly increased risk of developing this disease.
