Hills vom Funken Spiel

Hahahah, dear Yellowrose, I saw that ad before and was considering writing to the owner in Canada. The dog in the ad is beautiful, only comment is his front upper arm is a bit short. Dog looks healthy and well cared for.

Funken Spiel is a well known kennel that produces healthy and beautiful dogs. I say you go for him, his expression is breath-taking really. Good luck

Ok, since you asked for a critique I rewarched the video very carefully, so my critique is based on the stack as well as watching hime come and go, plus gaiting.

Medium sized male, personally prefer darker color, beautiful coat, correct proportions, height to length and chest to front leg. Very good type, beautiful head expression, good head size, good earset, good neck,, beautiful correct topline, high withers, strong back, slightly short and slightly steep croup ( note I say slightly), good tail and tail set, deep rear angulation, good let down hocks. Nice underline, stands straight on his front  legs, good shoulder, front upper arm slightly short, lay back of shoulder blade is good. All over a ver very nice looking male.

Gait: slightly limited front reach

Coming and going: straight front legs, move correctly, strong joints. But going I do not like the left rear leg movement, it does not move correctly as should, my English might fail correct description, it bounces and that is an indicator of something wrong in upper thigh possibly, but please seek advice from a more knowledgable person on movement of left rear leg.

Thanks I brahim..I saw same..but I do like his front walk and he is not easty westy and he does use his hocks correctly and he is nice size..HE also holds his head UP when he gaits for the most part and is very nosey to surroundings...I like that ..as I am not a sl person but have had mixed all my days but hard lines I do not know but I see so much in him...like my tripl H yip yap...made me cry..

I found another one I like also...but not sure yet what to do.

We know I know little in this area.  Regular Smile      That said, I watched about 1/2 the video and something seems off in the way the rear legs are held and move.   It seems like for the 1st minute plus the dog was squating.  It wasn't until about the minute 20 second mark that the dog "stood" up.

Other than that, striking looking, but a bit too angled towards the back for my tastes.

fawn, i see that as well, this will sound harsh but the dog appears to me to move like an overloaded pack mule.

nice looking dog tho.

experts will no doubt set the record straight.

This video was published on jun of 2011, they should have an updated video. The Woodside kennel from Canada has had top ASL dogs for decades, and has media up online on their other dogs.

Thanks, of course , I would go to where he is before I buy anything...

BUT trying to get my APPLES all in one cart..

I have not spoken to the ad owner, and not too sure yet.

Buying a puppy is crap shoot and buying an adult is same thing unless you watch the dog in training for 17 months.. and know how it was raised...and fed and  health ratings will be addressed..

FWIW, here's what I see:

1. The video is not a current one; it was uploaded to v Funken Spiel's YT site in 2011, so if one was serious about their interest in the dog, they should want to see a video that was shot recently, to evaluate the dog's condition and gaiting.

2. That said, I do see what you refer to with regard to the hind legs, and when they gait him on the paved roadway and get a three-quarters view of him, you can see that he is intentionally turning his left foot out as he's being held back and moved at a slow trot/jog, but when they let him extend himself that movement is not observed. I am thinking that what we see at the slower speed when he's being held back, and even when he's playing with the ball, is rather a sort of 'stutter-step', used when he's being gaited to avoid striking the front foot, and to collect himself as he's following and jumping up for the toy, instead of 'boing-ing' around like the Tigger character from Winnie-the-Pooh...

When a horse 'collects' himself while moving, we see the neck arch, chin tuck in toward chest, and the back slightly rounding to bring and keep the hindquarters more under the body. When a dog is 'collecting' himself while moving, however, we see them intentionally turn the hind feet out as they travel at a slow trot, and at a fast walk, or what I think of as a 'frolicking' gait, we see the hind legs behind lifted well under the body and exaggeratingly high, and the front legs similarly lifted in that same high stepping manner.

I've noticed that ad as it scrolls by up there, too, because there is no denying that this IS a striking photo, and a beautiful dog. Looking at his PDB photo, I'm not wild about his headpiece-planes aren't parallel, flews appear loose, and he could have a better mask--but if he showed up on my doorstep and my other dogs didn't object, I sure wouldn't be disappointed to find him there!

Could you be more specific, vk? I believe YR is consdering purchsing this dog and I'm sure she'd appreciate that.
