Does anyone have any experience in shipping pups in these temperatures? From Germany to US. At arrival the temp. will be between 10-20 F.

Depends on the airline. If it is a direct flight with Lufthansa, there are no temperature restrictions because they have their own animal handling facilities at each airport they service. They only do direct destinations though, ie Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, LA, etc. If there is a stop-over different airlines will be involved. Delta for example will have the shipper sign an acclimation certificate, which is basically a waiver that the animal can be exposed to certain low temps, meaning if something happens they are off the hook and you are out a puppy. Never mind what happens to the puppy... If temps are extreme, you should not ship. Rather wait. Contact www.GKair.de , they will let you know if the conditions are appropriate for shipping. Usually if it is forecasted to be below 20F most airlines will not ship anyways, some if the forecast is for below 10F. And that is a good thing. Better err on the side of caution here! Especially with a pup. I would not ship a pup at those temps unless it is a direct flight.

D.H. provides good advice. Be sure you are using a reputable company and airline to ship. However, in the extremes you mention, I personally would NOT import a pup at this time. In the U.S. there are rules governing the handling of animals, and airlines like Lufthansa are very good at what they do, but if so young a pup were left out somehow on the tarmac in such temperatures, it could certainly harm or kill the pup.

GK will take good care of things for you. I have been using them for years. They have a nice, heated facility right on the Frankfurt Flughafen. Dogs are delivered to the flight at just the right time before departure that they don't get too cold, and particular attention is paid to youg puppies. You can ship as many as three baby pups in a crate together, which is nice as they have each other for company. Try to be at air cargo within 30-45 min. of the expected/adjusted flight arrival time. Take $25. or so for customs clearance. I always take paper towels, a bath towel, 409 cleaner, a clean crate, something comfy (but not valuable) for the bottom of the crate, and some bungees in case the puppy has fouled his crate, so I can take it apart and tie in in a garbage bag on top of my van and clean it when I get home. (no hoses at cargo usually). Good luck with our new baby. Shelley
