When the rush is gone and this litter is sold out. I have access to a Quenn litter from a judges kennel. Strong working motherline. Puppy, crate, shipping, SV pink papers, shots, 2,500 US.

A question. How come I can find pups out of VA sire and V dams, for 1500 or 2000 at most, and some ask 3, 4000, or even more? I am not putting down anyones advertisement, but I am curious as to the disparities in prices. Is it just "what the market will bare", or is it "hey, it doesn't hurt to ask:)"? It's never a real accurate comparison though, because the sire and dam matchups are always different. So, I guess it is not answerable (is that a word:)

I guess it's a function of reality. There are two sides to consider. On the supply side there are dogs/puppies from VA/V parents that are excellent representataives of the lines they represent and there are some that aren't but make good pets. I'm putting the good ones at about 5%. These are the ones that bring a premimum price because of their outstanding quality. (Just like the variables when considering a diamond.) From what I can tell, the majority of buyers know very little about what they are buying. (Otherwise why would jeweley stores survive in the malls) Those that know the least, pay the most. I promose you will not find an educated breeder/show person paying the overinflated prices, only those that don't know the value of what they are buying. Those sellers without a track record of high quality through results charging the higher prices are generally catering to the buyers that are not informed. This is not as simple as it may sound. There are many buyers that need to pay more as one will expend more doing business with them. They need contracts, warranties, assurances that the dog will leap tall buildings with a single bound, live to be 14 years old without a health issue, and title out to SchH3 at two years old and be KKl 1 with a normal hips and elbows. It's a business risk, how much do you allow in a price to cover the unexpected? Value is a relative term based on expectations, sales promises, contract requirements, etc. In the end it's up to the two parties in agreement to establish value.

Dog 1, Who is the dam from the Quenn litter that you have access to?

by Do right and fear no one on 09 February 2007 - 04:02

Dog1: you make good points and I agree with your assement on the whole, however. Where in the world is a breeder that will guarantee all (or any) of the things you mentioned? I have never seen a contract that goes any further than a one year guarantee on health issues. And of course, hips can not be fully certified until 24 months old, and bad hips can arguably be caused by injury or over training etc., so there is a small loop hole there, and how can someone send their dog back 11 months after they obtained it? I could not. Breeders surely can not use the excuse that they have to cover their "possible, pending refunds", and charge premiums for such. Of course some do, and they will. It's like buying a used car. Buyer beware and do your homework. Wish I was as smart "back then" as I am now :)

People simply contact German Kennels or owners of the VA dogs, the prices are really really good. Most American traders are ripping you off. 600 to 1000 Euro is the standard price for a puppy sired by a VA. Quenn is owned by Uday Jani of UK Godalis kennels find his web-site write him and get your self the same quality puppy at a fraction of the cost charged by these TRADERS!!!!

Flow, Thanks for stating the obvious. I'm not trying to defend anyone's prices, but, it's not that easy. Just look at all the discussions here on the PDB. Perhaps you would like to expand on your discussion and explain what costs/risks are involved importing a puppy/dog.

A 3,500 dollar pup is not the finished product. JMO, but people are paying for the name, breeding, training that is involved, and making a profit on this, and want to get some money back. As others have stated , buyers beware, and do the homework. Dawn Bonome
