1st - If you do not train your dogs to the fence, it will not work. 2nd - Like everything else, it is not 100% fail safe and it does not take the place of monitoring your dog (s).

Now - I LOVE MY INVISIBLE FENCE.

I can finally enjoy working and playing with my 2 big dogs together without them running off. Nothing else I tried, got their attention and stopped the instant run.

I can let my 3 other dogs out to go to the bathroom while I am at work without having to stay outside and rush them back in.

I now have a 2 acre yard, rather than a 15'x15' kennel. 2 weeks of hard training and none of the dogs will get within 3 feet of the flags.

I now have the added protection of letting my neighbors know that my dogs can "run" my property. Let the rumor mill do its job. No one knows when my dogs are out and when they are put up. I do not live in a high crime area, so showmanship and rumor mill will take care of 98% of all issues.

I loved mine too, I used it for my first 2 GSD's. I couldn't have a fence taller than 4 feet so I went with the Invisible Fence instead.  The first GSD went through the barrier a number of times til we had the collar beefed up. He was a coat so I had to keep the hair under his neck trimmed short.  The second GSD got one correction and he never went near the field again. I could have put a t-bone steak there and he would not have touched it.

Make sure the batteries are fresh, Invisible Fence has a program where they send them to you on a regular schedule. Keep the collars tight, make sure the prongs are touching the skin and never leave the dogs outside alone. I did that a few times during the night and Blitz got hit by a skunk.  Also be careful you do not cut the wire when you are landscaping. If you do that, the transmitter will emit a loud beep and you will need to fix it yourself if you can find the break. If you can't find it, you'll have to call Invisible fence.

You did it the right way, trained the dogs per the instructions.

I had a trainer work with my dogs on the invisible fence.  No go, if Loki wanted something on the other side, he would puff up his neck and run through.  Ronin would get so caught up in what he was chasing that he would run through the fence and yelp. Never worked with either of them no matter how high the setting and I never left them outside unsupervised, they just thought whatever was on the other side was worth the shock.  Now my friend's dogs did fine with their invisible fence.  Down the road there is a very aggressive cur mix that has run through the fence in the past but thankfully the owner came home just in time and caught him before he engaged the dog he wanted a piece of.  This dog will go through the fence one day since the owners are clueless.  Down the road from my mom is a dog with an invisible fence who has never gone through it in the 5 years they have had it.  I wish it had worked with mine.

Thanks. I got some extra wire and fixes for if there is a break. I am supposed to slowly remove the flags, but I think I am going to leave many of them up. It reminds me of the line too.

There is supposed to be a "travel" version. I am going to look into it, as I go camping alot by myself. The long line leash is such a pain. I may test just putting the flags down to see if the dogs stay within without the wires.

I don't think I'd put down flags without a way to correct if they don't repect the border.

I use the radio containment system, bought from Tractor Supply.

I have an Astralian Shepherd on it to keep him at the barn area with my chickens.  He liked to go to the neighbors to lounge on concrete patio.

Once he was trained to it, you can't get him to cross it.

The box is in the barn and he wears the collar.  I rechage the collar about every 2 weeks.

Works awesome for him.  He is much happier now that he has free run of his area.

Good point Blitzen.

Mindhunt, I can definitely see the drive issue. I have that problem with both Baron and Bane. For a high drive GSD that many on this forum talk about, I can definitly see that this fence will not work.

Baron is now at full force and he seems to respect it. I will never be 100% confident enough to let him have full rein without monitoring. At least now, I can let him out to play and he is much happier (me too) without consitent correction or being on a long lead. Bane, I need to get his up to high (doing that this weekend). 2 hours after the installer left, Bane took off after a cat and went through the fence without a flench. He came back quickly on the recall, as Baron was not going to cross the boundary, therefore nothing to feed the drive to run.

Even with these limitations, I still love the fence and will work out the kinks. For "pet" dogs, it is working well and fully meets my expectations.

Invisible Fence has a harness they can rig with multiple contact points. It will work with most determined dogs, but not all. It really depends on the dog/s. Some are more sensitive to the correction than others and some are more determined than others to do it their way.
