Hi, I am new to this so hopefully I don't screw this up. I have been visiting this site quite a bit recently and have been drawn in to the topics especially the discussions between show line and working line dogs. I even purchased the 2003, 2005, and 2006 BSZS protection work DVDs and the best of BSP 1983-2004 DVDs from Reivision. I do have to admit that there is a distinct difference not only in the physical characterestics but also the bite-work between the two lines. Having said that I am curious to know if any of you would care to make any recommendations or comments as to which show line GSD has the best working temperamant and if pursued could possibly compete at the highest level of schutzhund. I have read that Hoss v. Larchenhain and Mark v. Haus Beck were quite famous in this regard and pass it on to their progeny. I myself have a Hoss grandson and Karo van de Herdesfarm son who is also showing great temperament. So any other names/lines come to mind? Thanks in advance for your comments

I second all of K91's choices! I would only add that Vando's sire was Ulk Arlett and he was known for producing good work. Debby

Hill vom Farbenspiel Karat's Ulk Ghandi von Arlett There are quite a few show line dogs that are not placed as high at the above, but who do outstanding job in SchH! The best way to find ot which show dogs could compete on a high level in SchH is to go to the BSZS and see the bitework for yourself. As far as I know, only VA dogs' bitework is on the DVDs.

Thank you. Makosh - I have the protection work for all the dogs (male and female) for the 2003, and 2005 BSZS. Only the VAs for 2006. However; I do agree with you seeing them in action is different then watching DVDs. Any comments on Karo van de Herdersfarm?

***Cliff Huhnergrab*** // pure showline dog beating hundreds of working lines // place 2nd in the BSP (working trials) for consecutive years maintaing high scores against well known working lines... Probably that was the time when the working lines were being upgraded on conformation (think about it???) Line bred on VA Ulme wildsteigerland (sister to Sgr. URAN) they say females exhibit better protection instinct because they are Moms... // Line bred also on Derby Adeloga brother to Sgr. Dick Adeloga??? Quando Wienerau son Line breeding with URAN is kind of good but has plenty of conformational problems // remember Uran leading to Sgr Eiko kirchental // Mark Hausbeck// because of Fedor line (although medium sized good for counteracting Too Large progeny and lack of uniformity // good earset possibly leading to curl tails (like SLEDDOGS) The GSD was gouped with the HERDING GROUP and replaced by Siberian Huskies whick are really good in working dogs // good in pulling things apart,,, I know a Vando Moorbeck line from ULK Arlett // that is kind of unsure // PRONE BITTER and not easy to control // Courage with this line , I dont know, that male folded back when confronted by a Russian working line male that i know... till next time...

I'm with K91 too. I have seen excellent work from Amigo Begier's lines. That would include Gucci. Quartz offspring seem to be the ones that are still around from the line. There are three Vando Moorbeck offspring in the US and all three were excellent. There's a male line bred on the V litter with Feli Ochsentor thrown in that's an excellent working male. I watched Sabine work Ulk where they train just before the 2005 sieger show and liked what he displayed. I haven't been associated with any off his offspring to draw a conclusion. I handled Jaguar Mausespitz at a Armin Winkler/Bernhard Flinks Seminar. Bernhard tested him a little. Jaguar was a serious dog.
