Hello,

I'm looking for information on Schraderhaus K9. Opinions of this breeder? Doe anyone here own, or have experience with a Schraderhaus dog?

NO;  no knowledge known but you might do a search as their name came up on this forum with problems in the past.  Just saying.  Nan

Jean is a very honest person.  I have had many conversations with her over the past few years and I have found her to be genuine and helpful.  I know she puts a lot of thought into her breedings, maintians nice breeding stock and is knowledgeable about lineage.  She has produced dogs active in many sport and working venues.

Have a conversation with her, tell her what you want and she will do her best to put the right puppy in your hands (up to and including referring you to someone else if she does not have what you are looking for)

She is a breeder I refer to when I do not have puppies available.

I have 3 females from Shraderhaus. All are great girls. Drivey, great temperaments, nice looking girls. 2 have gone a1 hips and elbows. The other OFA good, normal elbows. All DM clear. Jean is very professional and now has become a good friend. She asks about her dogs, thier progress in training, etc. She is one of the breeders I regularly refer to if asked.

Thank you for the replies. I would love to hear more from anyone who owns her dogs or has worked with them.

I have a five year old Schraderhaus male (Lux x Yumi), and I adore him. He is great to work and live with. We have done obedience, protection and agility together, and he loves it all.
He has a great bond with my husband and his dog as well, but he is definitely my boy. Jean spoke to me a number of times to get a good match of a pup for me, and he has turned out to be just what she said he would be.
He is very balanced, courageous but not too aggressive, enthusiastic but not obnoxious. He loves to work but can be calm in the house. Really, he is my dream dog, and I plan to get my next dog from Jean as well,
and unreservedly recommend her.

I have two girls from Schraderhaus and they are incredible.  I have been training them both in tracking, and they have their TD's and we are ready for TDX and Urban trials also...if I get a day off work to get to a trial!   I don't have much help where I live with training, so have been doing it all on my own, and my dogs make it seem easy and they are naturals. We are also planning on starting herding this fall, as they will be working with sheep next year every day to earn thier keep.

Jean is very knowledgeable, has great dogs.  I used to have show dogs, and after my last "show line" boy I purchased, who was a absolute health disaster but loved him dearly, I decided I needed something different and looked at working lines.  I drove out to Roy, WA from Vancouver Island, BC, Canada to check out her dogs.  Nobody near me seemed to have the quality she had, nor the interest in even the courtesy of responding to an email.  Jean responded to my many questions quickly and with good info. Once I got there, I fell in love with her dogs.  Sensible, smart, intelligent.  As a new person, i showed up on the property and the dogs barked, but only for about a minute.  Then everyone was quiet.  I had never seen that at the show line kennels where the dogs would bark non-stop.  The dogs were friendly, even the ones with Sch titles, as I was not a threat to the owner.  All the dogs were approachable and in great condition.  Not many breeders can show you an 11 year old male nor a 13 year old female, to me that's testament to the care and devotion to her dogs, and dogs don't live that long if they are not happy.

I have gone to Jean with many questions over the past two years of owning my dogs from her, she always gets back to me quickly and is always helpful.  She's very passionate about her dogs, and doesn't breed anything that is substandard.  And you see that in her dogs and her puppies.  Super easy to housetrain, super easy to train and easy to live with, and mine are 'drivey' but they are still sensible and easy to live with.  I can do anything with these two dogs, sky's the limit.  Right now we are continuing on through to tracking champions on both, I hope to have them both Tracking Champions by spring.  Herding titles likely by spring. And maybe if I get a decent work schedule next year we will also look at agility and obedience trials.

These two dogs are by far the best dogs I have ever owned...and I used to breed my own dogs from show lines.  My previous dogs were great and easy to live with, but with my previous dogs I often had issues with dogs not getting along and they were sometimes hard to train.  These girls are so much better, super easy to train - and they are two girls and actually get along - so far. I get amazing comments on them everywhere I go.  I will be purchasing a male in the near future from Jean also.

If you have questions, why don't you just make a trip to see her?  A dog is an investment, and if you feel the need to post the question, why don't you just go check it out for yourself...then you'll know if her dogs are for you.  I drove 5 hours each way and two ferry rides each way to check out the kennel, that was before I committed to a dog, and don't regret it for a second...I knew in a heartbeat that Schraderhaus was where I was getting my next dogs from.  A trip is worth the peace of mind.

Thank you again for the replies.

Nans GSD- I did a search, and pulled up a few threads but I didnt see where there was specifically anything "problematic" about this breeder....just that she was upset about the passing of a dog that she bred? If I am missing something else, can you explain? Or pm?
Thank you.

Gildaf, Can I ask what you "do" with your 3 girls? Are they pets or do they work?

Sarahmaise- your boy is very handsome and sounds wonderful!

Islandgirl- Thank you for your detailed response. I appreciate it.

Well as far as I am concerned it sounds like someone I would buy from.  Really any puppy is a crap shoot and if you are happy with her dogs I say definitely go for it.  Good luck  Nan

I have two Schraderhaus  dogs and they are both wonderful.  My 4 year old female is titled in AKC tracking, Rally and just about to finish up her CD.  She will go on to compete for the higher titles. I have every expectation of getting them.  She has hip ratings of excellent.   She is structurally sound and has been a very healthy dog.  My 8 month old  male puppy is in training and is  gorgeous.  Both have wonderful temperaments.  Jean is an ethical breeder with high standards.  I would not hesitate to get another puppy from Jean Schader at Schraderhaus K9!
