I worked part time for them doing dental and as a vet nurse, I used to be a medic/firefighter so they liked the fact I had medical knowledge.

I quit within 3 months, I wrote a letter to the head vet about how disgusted I was at the treatment (or lack of) given to the animals. It was awful, The guy that did denatl before me, never cleaned the table and used the same dental equipment for different dogs. Sick!

I complained about that and when I was hired, I had to clean all the equipment and sterilize all the equipment, this didn't seem to bother the vet at all, it drove the second vet crazy. She eventually left soon after I did.

When I first started, we were having a employee meeting and a family rushed in their 10 week old begle pup that had been bitten by their other dog, poor thing was in shock and bleeding, I grabbed the pup and rushed it back to the head vet, and told him what the family told me and said here, he needs help now. He said, put him a cage and get back to the meeting, I refused and held him to my chest, he was wimpering. The head vet said, you can put him down now. I said "I am sorry and I know I am new here but that is plain wrong, that family rushed him here to get emergency help and you want to talk about where to have our employee gathering instead of helping this pup."

The second vet came over to me and said here, lets check him out and get him some pain meds, I went off with her and we tended to the pup. I was so upset and pissed off. It took everything I had not to tell the family what this trusted head vet said.

I was stupid and signed one of those money making contracts when I first started, they would not let me out of it when I quit even after I stated in a letter why I quit, why I would NEVER bring my animals there, and in no way would I ever use their program. They refused to let me out of it. I had to have my account debited for a full year, and called over and over when it was close to a year to make sure they cancelled it. They did.

I also when I worked there after closing called on all the people who had thaose programs and told them they needed to bring their dogs/cats in, in two cases I was yelled at on the phone from people saying that their animals had died and they have asked for the debits to stop. " I apoligized and said I would look into that and make sure it was taken care of, I told the head vet about this and he said, yeah, well I will get to it.

I was only handed a list of numbers and animals names of people to call, I did not know much more than that. I blacked out the number and wrote on it deceased, and told the head vet, I quit not long after that so I do not know if they were in fact taken off.

So in other words, STAY AWAY FROM BANFIELD in all cases...... This was a central Florida Banfield.

MY letter I wrote the owner/head vet was a few pages long, and I hope he was ashamed of himself, the second (female) vet was good and caring and she left soon after I did. I also showed her my letter before I gave it to him.

Do not sign their contracts, employess get bonuses for getting people to sign those, stores compete to see how many each store has, that is a big red flag that it is a pure means to make money.

Off of soap box now, just hit a sore spot as I hate Banfield. (This one anyway more than others)

stay away from them.....oh one more thing... The dog I enrolled on the program when I first started was a sable female, that the head vet said...is she a wolf... I about laughed in his face...

Where in Ohio are you?  I, too, live in Ohio and could possible make some suggestions.  As for Banfield, I can't say a whole lot.  My ONE experience with them was very good.   They were less expensive on some things then my reg. vet, and more on others.  I have never personally taken one of MY GSD's there, we were out shopping, and found a loose puppy that appeared to have been hit by a car, and took it there because it was only a few blocks away.

I dont like the Banfield in my area at all.  They seem to think they are dog trainers, I had one client come to me very upset that they were badmouthing the way she was training her dog, had the audacity to tell her she was "ruining" him. I have one client that likes them, but some the diagnoses they give are so ridiculous I'm shocked people are willing to pay money to go there.

Hey, here's an idea.  Other forums have "sticky" threads, one's that are always at the top of forums for reference.

How about an idea of starting a "good vet" sticky thread, to post good vets all over the country and your experiences with them.

I know I'm in Illinois, (Chicago) and am always looking for good vets for friends and my own pets!

I use different vets for tdiferent things. Our local country bumpkins can give rabies shots, fill out health cert's for shipping, sell Heartguard, do minor maintenance. Anything more than that I go elsewhere.

If its SERIOUS, I head straight to Univ. of PA. 1.5 hrs. driving like a civilized human being... 60 min. driving like a mad woman. Well worth taking a chance on a fat ticket.
