Ok, first off im in a wheelchair.. Not a electric chair but a manual chair.. I fold my own chair up and load in my truck and vice versa. Just a run down on me..
I know a person can have to much dog, im aware of that, if a dog tries to pull a 100+ of his weight he will have a problem w/ me.. My attitude is I won't back down until he bites me if he attempt turn..
I read  the story abouth the guy a few yrs ago saying his dog turn two years later after he purchase..

.Ok I travel alot I have drove from louisiana to las vegas '' few times, bout to again'' by myself with nothing but my heart and testies.. I opening another business I just move around alot....
I need something level headed smart intelligent think on its feet.. cool/calm but will tear the bad guy booty in a heartbeat if I say so or if danger occurs
Also can do a house check on command , but I can probably add that train feature later.. I can leave off the leash.. companion trustworthy..
I need some guidance should I buy a imported german shep puppy or american gsd '' hear they have no heart " then have the training? or should I buy a dog ready???

I'm thinking that you would be better off with an already started (trained) dog rather then importing a puppy which is a total crap shoot.
There are good trainers/breeders out there who are producing import type dogs on american soil. So you can skip the shipping fees. Also you have rather special wants for a dog. So i think your going to need a lot of interaction with the breed/trainer to make sure you get the right fit. To me it sounds like you want a dog that can be calm and social if your just out and about doing your thing. But will rise to the occasion on command if something should arise. Is this correct? Where are you located? As this may help narrow down who is worth dealing with and if they are with in range of you for working with the dog.
I think your needs can be met. And i hope that while having a protection dog you never really have to use it. But better safe then sorry.
There are some good folks on here a you might also check out http://www.workingdogforum.com/vBulletin/ The Working Dog Forum. As a lot of trainers and protection people discuss things there. Good group, just follow the rules and introduce your self first when they send you the welcome e-mail.
Good luck!

For you an adult trained dog is what I would recommend.  If you have little time to train and need a dog now that is the best and only option.  If you buy a fully trained adult (2.5 years old+/- and the dog does not suit you then return quickly to the breeder/trainer  .. no harm and no foul to you or the dog.  A puppy or younger dog will suffer as will you if you keep the dog 6 months or a year and it does not work out.

Save yourself a lot of time and energy. Get a dog you like and buy a gun.

Dog1 may be on to something there about the gun.  My wife and I bought our first GSD for protection about 14 years ago.  Within a month of getting our female GSD 4 years old and a great girl either of us would have taken a bullet to save the dog.  Most owners of GSD would protect their dogs rather than the other way around.  If you don't want the dog to get hurt and you are having to deal with an intruder and a dog trying to get at the intruder you have two problems.  The primary use of most dogs is as a deterrent.  Get one that barks and looks mean that you can live with because a dog bold enough and brave enough to take on the devil himself usually doesn't make a good TV watching partner.

Please get an adult trained dog, there are a few people in here who could help you. In addition, I would highly suggest a gun that you have trained with and can use under stress.
As someone else mentioned, dogs are a deterrent, but, they are what will sometimes allow you to get TO the gun while they engage the would be "suspect" giving you time to get the gun. Dogs do not stop bad guys, a shot center mass does, dog simply buys time. Good luck.

The only problem with the gun idea is this man is moving back and forth across state lines and it really depends what localities he is traveling as to getting permit in each or which state permits the area recognizes. This is why a carry permit should just be a carry permit nationwide. I keep carry permit and have for many years since driving back and forth to see my father in hospital terminal illness and having to go through rough areas to get there. I also carried dogs with me that would stay in vehichle/hotel as then I was physically capable without a service dog for myself, as a deterrant and provide companionship as they were my sar working partners. These days I do have use of a service dog and find he is a great deterrant without having to have protection training. Even panhandlers give us a wide berth. I feel that you may have issues with a trained protection dog respecting and obeying you with also having to use your hands on the wheel chair and I am very confused to the part of leaveing the dog off leash? You have to be in control at all times of a protection dog. If the dog is not trained for service work, you will not be allowed the dog places. Buying a protection dog does not mean you have immediate protection either. You have to be able to back up the training the dog has had and be able to guide the dog and be its handler. You have to be trained how to work the dog and to also have the physical ability to do so. I do not know your medical limitations so you must realistically look at what you can do versus what the dog will require. Leaving it offleash is not a good idea. I suggest if you qualify for a service dog, get one that can mitigate your disabuilities and learn how to handle a gun properly and practice regualrly and get a permit if you have that many issues to have this need. The service dog especially if use a gsd or simular breed truly does cause many looking to cause trouble to find an easier target just being with you.

you guys are forgetting to add how much time and effort it is to have a personal protection dog. Also keeping the dog off leash in public areas? the amount of training that will go into for a dog like that?

Don't forget how many scam artests are going to be taking this posters money and offering him a fear biter, if he does not have much experience purchasing dogs, you think he is going to end up with a true level 3 ppd? There are people who can provide a good dog to him but no one knows how much extra time he has or experience etc.. A lot of these dogs drain the energy out of you and your ife becomes theirs. Hes looking for a level 3. Best thing to do is to get a dog with the right drives and train it yourself. Id say get a gun and learn how to shoot good, unless you really love dogs that much that you dont mind having your life revolved around them.  If you dont like guns you can get tasers or stun guns etc..

PP dogs are for people who are dog obsessed love them and dont mind their lives to be full of their dog, training it learning from it sometimes putting up with stress and problems from it. The protection part is just a working aspect where the dog protects you. i would never ever want a dog like that unless i wanted a dog in the first place. Its like a 2 in oone deal. You want a dog badly and then why not get one with good protection ability and teach it with a trust worthy trainer if the work you are in is a bit more risky and could use some protection? If thats your case get a younger dog and slowly teach it. Get a dog with proper mentality that will fit your life style. Maybe one that can do other work for you also not just protection.

And for those of you saying dogs dont stop people have you ever seen a good police dog in action?  You dont need a gun to put someone out.  If you just want a deterrent you can get any rescue or any gsd for that.  No need to pay a lot of money.
