Here's the email that I wrote to these people.

Dear Broward Commissioners,

I'm writing to you with great concern regarding to the possible ban of Pitbulls in Broward County. As a dog trainer of 11 years, and as a proud register voting citizen of Broward county I must disagree with the ban of these beautiful creatures. While the media does portray them as savage beasts, and celebrities like Michael Vick does a good job tarnishing the reputation of these animals by purposely training them to be mean for his personal financial game, the fact is these dogs can be a great addition to the family, if properly trained right. Why does an entire breed have to suffer as a result of irresponsible pet owners who refuses to invest in training classes for their canines? Or allows their animals to run wild through neighborhoods without having a leash on? It's simply not fair for the breed nor for the responsible pet owners who has Pitt bulls, and never had an incident where their dogs bit someone because they were responsible enough to take their dogs to training classes.

Please do not implement this ban of Pitbulls.

and so far I recieved 1 reply

Please excuse my brevity but I have received hundreds of e-mails on this subject. To be brief, I do not support a ban and believe the dog owner needs to be held responsible.

Lets keep fighting for pitbulls rights!

This is why these breeds get banned...because their proponents keep living in fantasy world. No one trains a Pit bull to fight, the dog is simply allowed to do it. No one was "mean" to these dogs, they have a genetic propensity for aggression. The truth is that the vast majority of people cannot handle nor put the time in a breed that requires serious training and control. The county looks at this as a liability issue, not an emotional one as most people do. Not that it will matter, Dade county had their law passed in 1989 and it still has more pits then anyplace else.

Pits are not the most aggressive breed of dogs. The fact is that they are really loyal dogs and will do whatever their master commands them through training. The Pitbull in fact has been called the "Nanny Dog" as it is a good dog for watching and protecting children. The dog in  Pete the Pup in the first old TV show of The Little Rascals was an American Pit Bull Terrier named "Pal the Wonder Dog". Any dog that can be around a child and not hurt it is not a bad dog. The sad truth is that one of the most aggressive dog breeds is the Dachshund or "Weenie Dog". There was even a study done in recent years about the most aggressive dog breeds and I'm sure that the Pitbull was no where near the top of the list, unlike the Dachund and other well liked breeds. Dachunds are way worse than any other dog breed to me as they have actually killed and eaten babies.  And I don't mean puppies, but actual human babies. I blame the severe inbreeding to get such a small, short legged, and long bodied dog for the Dachund's problems. They most likely didn't even bother to think about temperment when they bred the dogs originally. I find it quite annoying how the littlest dogs literally get away with murder, while the bigger ones get put down from even a small bite.

I thought that humans were bad with each other when they hated for race, regilon, gender and sexal pref... And then I see them acting the same way towards animals. Is anyone who breeds German Shepherds aware that the white version was only banned because of Adolf Hitler? (Yes, I mean the Nazi leader himself.) He claimed that the dog was albino (It's not, as it does not have pink skin under it's fur.) and begain trying to complely kill off the color as he thought is was behind any defect he found in the German Shepherd. Yet, even today his hate on the color white in GSDs in still here and even the AKC and other kennel clubs bans the colors. The white GSDs are light grey or light cream not true pure albino white. One of the first recorded dogs in the German Shepherd Dog's pedigree is a white and without it the breed would not even exist. So that just shows you how messed up humans are. We hate anything we can for some of the stupidest reasons as well.

So really,  these bans on dog breeds are not just morally wrong but rather stupid when you think about it. I myself have been around Pits and never had any problems, small dogs however I have found to be evil little monsters, yet you don't see me trying to ban them. Sorry for all the rambling but I really hate all these stupid bans on dog breeds as well as all the other types of racism, be it animal or human. Most animal shelters refuse to even help the Pitbulls and just put them down instead. It's really horrid, but too many buy into the nasty rep the breed has. I find it really cruel how they kill harmless Pitbull puppies just because of their breed's rep as well as the adult dogs. My own local animal shelter is that way sadly and I always fear for my dogs as they are German Shepherds and even they are starting to get bad reps and banned in certain places.

Go to this site, read and study EVERYTHING several times over. Dianne has forgotten more about the breed then you will ever learn. Thats all that needs to be said about this subject.

Pit bulls kill very many people in my country, children included, so not so sure about Nanny dog. In the right hands they are great. Most hands are however not the right hands. Like a fast car or a firearm. Most people that want pit bulls should not be allowed them, they should be given golden retrievers and told to go home. Does this mean people who can handle them should be denied, I do not know. Maybe a unilateral ban is too tough, maybe you should have to prove your experience and show that you can handle them somehow. That seems fair.

Here is a newspaper article from here in Autralia, the Pit bulls are banned in some states and rangers do have the power to impound and euthanais them.

I agree 100% with Maxleia's post, the majority of pitt bulls are owned by the wrong kind of   people  (idiots) and that is why they are banned and cannot be imported into Australia ( not that it is going to help the matter).

Maxleia, I'd be super curious to hear your definition of "very many" in the context of "Pit Bulls kill very many people in my country, children included." If you can qualify that statement with solid statistics, I'd be even more grateful.

Hired Dog is right. Some like to fight.  If you don't want them to, don't let them. It's really quite simple. The issue as I see it is that most of these "Pit Bulls" are nothing even resembling a true Pit Bull. Hell, you could probably keep your true Pit Bulls right where there's a ban in place because most won't even recognize what they are. Wink Smile

Absolutely, Jenni !Thumbs Up

And HiredDog, if  "No one trains Pits to fight", what's with all the
treadmills and other fitness equipment confiscated from fighters
properties ?  And smaller dogs which have disappeared only to
turn up dead and covered in bites ?

Hired Dog

by Hired Dog on 27 February 2013 - 09:02

Hundmutter..first, I have never seen nor heard of any dogs missing, I think that those who make up these stories and attribute them to fighting, have their own issues to deal with.
Second, all that equipment, is to get a dog IN SHAPE, not to train one to fight, I hope you understand the difference. Fighting in the breed is genetic, its either there or its not. No one will invest money and time on a dog that does not like to fight but has to be forced to. Same thing with many other aspects in life, but, thats another thread.
