Hello all forum members,

I would appreciate if you could critique my dog Rex.

Obviously he is a long stock coat, just turned 14. months old. His weight is 70 pounds / 31.5 kg. His approximate height is 62-63cm, 24.5"
These pictures were taken by my phone camera. I did not have anybody to help me stack my dog, so stack is not perfect for sure.
Pictures are presented as they are, no modifications what so ever have been done on these pictures. Please also note that I did not have a chance to groom my dog in last 7 days :)

I am expecting him to put some weight on until he gets 2 years old.
I would prefer to have him to be 25" / 64cm at shoulders and to weigh 80 pounds / 36kg. Do you think that this is still possible given his current age?
Your critique is welcomed.

Don't worry, someone with experience will come along and comment.

Looks like a good dog though. And I have a long stock coat too.

With  him being a long coat dog, they always have tons of bone and get BIG.
I'd guess an inch bigger and certainly more than 80 lbs. at maturity.

It is not easy to evaluate structure of a long coat, I will try, Good type black/tan GSD male, medium size and medium strong, correct proportions i.e height to length and front leg to withers height (some might thing his chest is too deep due to his long hairs). Nice head piece, good earset, good strong neck, notably high and long withers, good short and strong back, short and steep croup, nice tail and tailset. Good hind angulation, good hocks, good shoulder, front upper arm slightly short, good strong pasterns, maybe need some more length, notably very good feet, stands straight on front legs. Nice pigment and obviously a big tongue Teeth Smile

Only thing that is not so good is the croup, short and steep, otherwise a nice boy, enjoy him and good luck.

Well not all longcoats 'get BIG', for a start.  I know a dog who looks
almost exactly like the OP's dog;  he is fully grown, at  64 cm.

Seofred, I'd echo what Ibrahim said about it being difficult from these
pictures.  However, the few pointers he can give you seem accurate
to me (especially the long tongue LOL !!).   I should just say that the
dog I refer to in the paragraph above is actually a well-constructed,
medium size, medium strength, very good animal.  So if your boy is
as like him as he seems, he's fine !

Be proud of your dog - a smaller dog is doing better at work than a bigger one,, 30 kilos for work is better than 40 kilos.
He is totally within the breedstandard, so everything is fine!
