The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help finding the person who threw a German shepherd from bridge.
The sheriff's office said it was contacted by Oklahoma Highway Patrol on Wednesday after the dog was thrown from a bridge on Southeast 59th Street down to Interstate 40.
The dog was identified through a tag on his collar as Rookie, according to police. He is in critical condition with several injuries including an open fracture on his rear left leg and is also suffering from internal bleeding, investigators said.
An OCSO Animal Welfare deputy transported Rookie to the Deer Creek Animal Hospital in Harrah where he is being treated.
The Humane Society of the United States has agreed to cover all veterinary care costs for Rookie, and is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for this crime.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office at 405-869-2501.

Yesterday morning, a German Shepherd Dog named Rookie was thrown from a highway bridge on Southeast 59th Street down onto Interstate 40 in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma.
Rookie survived the fall and was not hit by any vehicles, but he sustained serious injuries and will need to have one of his legs amputated. He was initially in critical condition, suffering from a broken leg and internal bleeding, while he was treated at Deer Creek Animal Hospital. He has since been transferred to the Oklahoma State University Veterinary Medical Hospital, where he is reportedly doing well.
A Highway State Patrol trooper arrived at the scene after being alerted by multiple 911 calls. She found Rookie sitting on the pavement, bloody, with a broken leg. Despite his serious injuries, as soon as Rookie spotted the trooper get out of her patrol car, he got up and went straight to her.
Rookie will have a loving home to go to once he is released from hospital care, as the highway state trooper has expressed interest in adopting him.
Rookie's friendly nature can be traced back to the fact that the sweet German Shepherd was once a beloved member of two different families.
Just three months ago, Rookie was a member of Jeanne Keffer's family, where he was loved and well cared for. Jeanne had welcomed Rookie into her family one year ago after her friend, an Oklahoma police officer, could no longer care for his beloved dog.
Jeanne says Rookie is a loving and tender-hearted giant, "He was my best friend, my protector, my guardian and the personal chew toy of a two pound female Chihuahua that stole his balls and treats while he meekly obeyed her every wish."
Unfortunately, Jeanne found herself in a similar situation to her police officer friend when she had to find a new home for Rookie. "I had to move to Oregon two months ago and was going to be staying with a friend who did not allow dogs. I had a child and an elderly mother to take care of and I had to make some tough choices." Jeanne said.
Jeanne says that a former co-worker of hers adopted Rookie when she moved to Oregon. Jeanne explained, "I was moving out of state and knew I couldn't bring Rookie with me. I put his picture on Facebook and asked my friends if anyone could adopt him. I only have a few friends on Facebook and no strangers. Everyone on my Facebook is someone I know personally."
When Jeanne's former co-worker responded that she wanted to add Rookie to her family, Jeanne believed that Rookie would be well cared for. "I thought they seemed like a nice family," Jeanne said of her former co-worker, who at the time was living in her aunt's home with her husband and two children.
Jeanne's former co-worker then made arrangements with Jeanne to visit her house, where she and her children met Rookie and later took him home with them.
Jeanne was shocked and upset when she received a call from the police with the news that Rookie had been nearly starved to death before being thrown over the bridge yesterday. Police identified Rookie through a tag on his collar.
"I'm just sick over this," Jeanne expressed. "I cried and threw up all day."
Jeanne contacted her former co-worker and was told by the person, "it wasn't me, I don't know who did it, I gave him away to someone on Craigslist." Jeanne says her former co-worker then hung up on her and has since blocked her on Facebook.
Meanwhile, Rookie will have a loving home to go to once he is released from hospital care, as the highway state trooper who arrived at the scene has expressed interest in adopting him.
In addition to covering all veterinary care costs for Rookie, The Humane Society of the United States is offering a $2500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for this crime.
The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating this case and asking anyone with any information or anyone who witnessed the incident to call them at 405-869-2501.
I CANNOT COMMENT BECAUSE IT WOULD BE FULL OF PROFANITY ABOUT EVERY SINGLE PERSON THAT TRADED THIS DOG LIKE A PLAYING CARD WHO FING GIVES AWAY THEIR BEST FRIEND< PROTECTOR AND GUARDIAN? I sure would not want to be any of these people's friends, God Bless that Trooper and the vets and the Humane Society.
