Just curious. What would the average normal weight be for a 6 month old well pedigreed showline GSD??? Would 60 lbs. 27.2kg) be about right for a healthy weight?

Thats kind of broad. Depends on the dogs, bone and size. Does he look too fat or big to you? Take a look at the parents is the best way and see what they look like.

4pack is right It depends on the bloodline your dog is out of..rule of thumb slim is right barely see ribs slow growth is what u want bad on hips to gain weight what foods are u feeding and are u working herand training her regularly building muscle.

IMO without the above info (bone, height, bloodlines), it would be OK for a male but heavy for a female.

We seem to agree that many of the show-lines are a bit large these days. For a six-month-old male I would say that fifty (50) pounds is realistic provided that he is not fat. Sixty (60) pounds represents a 20% increase over what I typically see, but I of course do not know the parentage of the puppy and their characteristics. At this age he should be a slender, gangly, awkward, and clumsy individual. Bob-O

I think that 60 lbs is above average for 6 months. GSD's are getting larger and larger these days and the standard calls for medium size. It is desirable to have a more medium size GSD, probably weighing between 40-50 for a male at 6 months. Much depends on his bone structure though. Debby

my male was only 38.6lbs at 5 months and now at 21 months he is 88lbs....so depending on their lines they have different developemental rates...mine was the second smallest in his litter and we never though he'd reach the average, he is abouve the average in height also almost to the height limit.....so one never knows.

i have a 10 month old showline male who weighs 65lbs and is in excellent show condition.. i also have a 4 month old male who is 38lbs wh ois in excellent condition 6 months old male... I'd have to say for what i think is healthy, 45- 55 lbs is good, we dont want them growing like wildfire... some dogs just carry their weight different... i had a vet tell me that 10 month old looked too skinny and i said "for who"? the male is athletic, strong, no ribs showing at all

My five and one half month old male puppy is 34 pounds. It is better for them to grow slower. The puppy in question is a baby and he will get bigger and broader. Get an older adult AKC shepherd if you want a big one.

thats on the heavy side, but my gsd (male) was weighd on his 6 month birthday before getting the chop and he was 57 lbs (26 kgs) but he is not at all fat and that was after he hadnt eaten for a day because of the operation. so realy thats the perfect waight for a larger gsd as long as he is not fat.
