Having just been through this, made me wonder what others do after their pet(dog, cat, rat, horse, etc) passes away.
Do you choose to cremate, bury, or other? Do you choose that option soley due to circumstances(city living so unable to bury, etc)?
If you choose to cremate, what do you do with the ashes?
Due to loosing Ark in freak/unexpected circumstances, I wanted to take him home & bury him(also gave us all time to say good bye). We have our own land so space isn't an issue either.
I have also had pets cremated when buring wasn't an option(lived in town/rented). They now reside in small custom "dog house" style urns.

we have 2 acres and have our own pet cemetary out back under the Pecan trees.  The breeder who we bought our current Doberman from cremates, his reason is that if he ever moves he wants to be able to take them with them.  I'm just more of a traditionalist.

I've never done either.  I keep their dog tags and collar as a memoir, but that's it.

My dogs get a fur saver there favorite toy a full bowl of food and water and a little of my blood with them when there burried. There on the hill behind my house so I can see them all.

Bob,
I actually like that idea. Although, the little bit of your blood thing, I think all of my dogs have gotten enough of that from me, no need to add any more. lol

That way they always have a little of me with them so there never alone and it helps them find me when I need there comfort.

I like the logic.

I used to bury because I was near family farm and could know they were safe from it ever being disturbed. I now cremate because we travel every so many years for husband's employer. I am a mixed media artist so I create each of my dogs a custom wood urn and put a sculpture on top done of them. One female hated to be enclosed, so I did scatter her ashes in the field she loved and attached the statue of her to a windchime I made and hung it on the tree nearest to where I scattered her ashes. I knew in life she hated crates/ boxes so I did not want her ashes in one.

Mine are cremated, kept on a bookcase in my living room or on my dresser, their brass fursavers around their boxes, so that when my time comes our ashes can be mixed together and spread over the landscape together. I couldn't bear to leave them buried someplace I don't live anymore, perhaps to be excavated by some unknowing, uncaring property owner the same way I accidentally came across a dog grave on my farm in PA.

All my pets have been buried and I keep my dogs' tags.
