DOG FLU?? - Page 1

Is there some kind of FLU going around? About 3 weeks ago, my dog thru up, and had the runny poos bad! I took him to the Emergency Vet, and had many tests done. All normal. He is fine now!!He was in a Dog Show right before that. Is it possible that he picked up something at the show? Dawn

Dawn, that is always a possibility, and the chance you take when you associate around other dogs.

Parainfluenza is always out there, it seems. There are different strains and although your dog may be vaccinated against one type, they often mutate into something a bit different and your dog can pick it up. Yep, likely something he picked up at the show. (48 hours or prior?) Glad he's okay!! :)

Dawn, It's a possiblility that your dog caught a flu but maybe before the show. You didn't say how long after the show your dog came down sick. Remember that most viruses will live in their hosts 3 to 7 days before symptoms first appear. Same with you. If you are around someone with a virus (cold) figure about 4-5 days you'll be sick too. I hope your dog is feeling much better now. Birdy...
