Is there any truth in the statement, that  even if there is a salmonella contaminent  in a raw product, a dogs digestive system is that much faster than a humans, so that it passes though their digestive tract  before there are distressing symptoms?>>

Yes, the dog digests food so much faster then we do.... and they say that raw foods digest much faster then kibble even.

Also, the acids in the dogs stomach are very strong and can fight off most anything... which is why dogs can eat horrid things and not get sick.  Once I had some raw hamburger in a baggy and forgot it was in my training bag, I found it a week later and it was GREEN, gross... I toss it on the driveway and was going to go throw it away but before I did my sister's Saint Bernard made a meal of it.  It was full of mold and I am sure all sorts of bacteria... he didnt get sick at all!  I have seen dogs eat cat poop, goose poop and tons of other nasty things.... they do not get sick from it.

The only concern with e coli/salmonella is a dog who may have a comprimised immune system to begin with.  These should not be a problem with a healthy dog.  but like was already said here, they can get e coli/salmonella from treats, kibble, water, etc... these things are everywhere not just in raw meat.

Egsd:  one mans sad is another mans glad.  I'm glad you are here, as in order to know what happiness is, one needs to know sadness.  You my friend, are what makes me appreciate intellectual conversations with others.  I am a lot of things I know, but one thing I am not, is ignorant.  For instance, I am intelligent enough to know, without even having met you, that you are not someone I would associate with, under any circumstance.  Therefore, I am done with you.  Now, go feed them thar dawgs something besides viagra and vitamin C, D and E with Alewo.  They just might appreciate something that is not health food, once in a while.  I know I do.  I am also sure that you either drink coffee or soda pop, eat weiners, or bagels.  Does EGSD stand for "Echh German Shepherd Diet"?  Just wondering.  I am probably wrong

Do Right feeding RAW or feeding some super premium kibble is not necessarily more expensive. It does take a bit more time but not to much more. I buy a #60 case of stewing chickens for $20 bucks. I also fill a freezer with deer/elk trim for free, well I buy the butcher an occasional 18 pack of Bud Light! I feed very little kibble so what I do feed I like to know is quality food, they get maybe 1/2 to 1 cup a day. Most of the time none. They do not have any regular vet visits which cost a small fortune these days. So in the long run I think it is better for my dogs and cheaper, at least for me. Cancer is the leading killer of dogs these days, someone correct me if I am wrong. One of the thing we are told as humans is to stay away from preservatives, processed foods, on & on. Eat a healthy diet with LOTS of RAW fruit and veggies. Because of the enzyme content in raw foods for one reason and because all the nutrients aren't destroyed. It only makes sense this would hold true for any living thing. But once again I will quote myself

"I am not going to try to tell anyone they should just quit feeding dog food and go RAW or home cooked, but nobody is going to convince me dog food is better than fresh food either."

I hear ya yellowrose! It is getting expensive. I did forget one vet bill. My two old girls about 2 years ago decided to try out UFC style fighting. It cost me well over $200 for stitches! And they weren't that bad! The oldest has since passed at 12+, ya would think they would quit that nonsense at their age.....

I haven't heard much about it, but I use Nutro Natural Choice Large Breed Lamb and Rice. I also use Nupro and I have wonderful coats, & small stools. I have been using Nutro for 20 years. I have switched off several times just to see how my dogs would and quite frankly I always come back to Nutro. Royal Canin did nothing for their coats, O&M made their coats greasy, Solid Gold means too many other supplements to make it 100%.

I must say that I do sell Nutro on the weekends and we had to go through an 8 hour nutrition class.

Remember the first 6 ingredients on the label are what your food is made of mostly. So if it says: ground yellow corn then you know your dog is eating corn and getting rid of it pretty much in the same state. If it says: chicken (poultry) by products that means it is the heads, feet and instines that they swept up off the floor.

Some of the top sellers are full of corn. Just read your lables and feed what 'your' dogs do best on. Oh, I do use a little Merrick canned food and my dogs love it.  And they get yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, chicken breasts. Of course these are used sparingly. Just remember NOTHING FROM CHINA...............................

For the past 20 plus years our family has been feeding our dogs healthwise/innova/evo brand. great dry food..combined with raw and cooked meat and or fish. Great appetite /palpability, good coat ect. Go to their website..the food is all made in the usa and they show all of their ingredients and compare to other competitor products......
