Sunsilver I had the opportunity to view a dead wolf this spring. It was a young female hit on I-90. My husband works for the DOT and called, they had picked it up and it was at the state shop awaiting the Game Warden to come and get her. It is just down the hill so I went to take a look an a couple pics. You are right, compared to a GSD, their head, teeth, bone, paws were massive and thick. But I am not sure it is relative, because I have also seen dead coyote whose head, teeth, bone, and paws were quite slight comparatively to a GSD. They are both scavengers and predators.

I think there may be some risks with feeding a RAW diet in terms of ecoli and salmonella but we as humans take some of these risks eating contaminated spinach or lettuce. These organisms do not only harbor themselves in raw meat. Also in light of the dog food recalls and the recent allegement of acetominophen in Canidae Dog Food (which I have fed some Chicken & Rice) I think the risk is worth taking. There is no way anyone can convince me that those little brown shaped nuggets, that are overcooked/processed can be better for anything. Would any of you eat it? Everyday? The dog food companies make it sound like it is full of nothing but whole roasted chicken, savory brown rice etc. My common sense tells me "not"! And how can you tell what is in that little nugget by looking at it? It could be just solid grain, like wheat, how would anyone know? Unless you got it tested.... I am not going to try to tell anyone they should just quit feeding dog food and go RAW or home cooked, but nobody is going to convince me dog food is better than fresh food either.

I neglected to say I have a problem with the last link you provided.  Although I don't think he is currently employed by any of the dog food companies, however; he is trying to sell his book about breed specific dog food recipes.  I perused the site but couldn't find any reference to research specifically pertaining to RAW.

I have been feeding 100% raw for over 9 years now.  My 10 year old female has been on raw since she was a year old... Her 5 year old daughter and 9 month old granddaughter have never eaten a bite of kibble in their life.  I have had excellent results not only with my adult dogs, but with pregnant/whelping bitches, litters and puppies raised on a good raw diet.  I started out feeding more of a BARF diet now lean more towards prey model with more meats, less bones, little to no veggies/grains... although I adjust the diet slightly when breeding a female and while she is pregnant and nursing.

Are there risks to a raw diet?  Sure... can dogs get E Coli?  Sure... from raw meat OR water OR kibble OR treats OR a ton of other places.  There are also risks to feeding kibble... although e coli is very unlikely to be a problem in a healthy dog.  Each person needs to do the research and determine what they feel is the best for their dogs.  For me, I feel the risks are way too great to feed kibble....and the benefits of feeding raw far far outweigh any possible risks.

There are risks to everything in life... I do what I strongly believe is the best for my dogs after 9+ years of research and experience of feeding raw.

Exactly! To me dog food kibble reminds me of twinkies. Compressed, pounded, mixed, fake flavor, color, vitamin thrown in just to give it something registerable to print on the package. Sure it's eddible and I guess you can survive on it but do we really want to?

Is there any truth in the statement, that  even if there is a salmonella contaminent  in a raw product, a dogs digestive system is that much faster than a humans, so that it passes though their digestive tract  before there are distressing symptoms?

allabout....Ol roy... was a  generalization.... you got my point .....As for me and showing...Do you know who the founder of the breed is?? How nicely a shepherd stacks is insignificant....the breed was created to be functional and perform a task.... various tasks... but not to be mainly impressive because how he/ she stacks... So many show dogs stack great and trot or run nice or whatever they look for and their temperments suck and thier nerves are a joke...but they are V rated...whooooo... I actually tested  dogs in Europe for high money that were considered the best of the best and the emphasis was always how well they stacke or moved... but the bitework sucked and most of them the nerves were terrible for grown male gsd's....
