DO right fear no one   you are so off ... I feel sorry for your dogs!   Not obnoxious, its frusrating that people spend all this time ,effort and money on going to shows and preparingfor shows.....but feed purina or dont know anything about a dogs diet!!  Common sense and intelligence!

Do right, I'd throw my kid to my dogs on a bad day. JK Seriously though, I think I would get used to it if I "had" to. I will do whatever is neccesary for my dogs. I started thinking about raising rabbits again and maybe chickens and ducks for dog food purposses. I don't think I'll throw them in live but I am thinking ahead. If the dog food companies don't get their shit together, I may just have to do it myself. Maybe feed my family some fresh stuff too.

My daughter is buying a lamb for 4-H this year, how easy would it me to buy 2? I hate mutton but I'm sure the dogs would stuff it down just fine.

Also we did have snakes and rats to feed to the snakes. I didn't like to watch as my kid and GARD did. I thought it barbaric, the snakes would not usually kill the rats first but swallow them still live.  It's like watching lions gut open a gazel while another is still on it's throat. I guess thats nature but I don't have to like it. I'd prefer to have the meat already dead and I would never feed kittens to my dogs. I'm not all that fond of cats but thats one step shy of feeding puppies to your dogs. I'm not that hard core. If we were starving things might be different.

edsd: Thats why vets are rich and we are dog poor......it doesnt show at first on a dog, cheap food....and BTW  for the person feeding pro plan.......you are feeding a food with a chemical in it called   menadione  vit K activity   that has no purpose and it a chemical and chemicals effect the liver, kidneys and blood and heart of every dog , and we put enough with worming and shots into them without feeding them a chemical three times a day..for 365 days a year....so check it out      no food should contain

menadione  vit k activity       not needed   a chemical  not a natural     fda wouldnt approve it   so why do dog food com put it in the food     who in the corn county knows.....

I have the study   I will email anyone that wants it   schutz club in houston paid to get the study   they dont want people to know it.........I will see if I can link it. its a fortypage study.....Ill pull it and try to link and copy here in a bit.....

ProPlan, Exceed, Purinas,   Nutro Max and even their Holistic food, has menadione...

Iaams, Eucunuba, Bil Jac, Diamond,  all the ones above listed dont have it....Blue buffalo , Avoderm, do not contain menadione        do your research and look at what you are putting in your dogs systemm   .....if you dont care keep feeding it.....

Cancers are so common now.....why.........fill the body with chemicals and   oooopppssss......and we cant stop all of the chemicals,,,,we live it and in it,,,but you can sure read a label and if it contains a questionable ,,,find another dog food......why chance it.......just like raw meats,,,,watch where you buy them and who from

Green trip I understand is great    but you have to buy it on line ,,,,,,,,,fresh is not sold....because of the contamination problem,,,,,,

i feed rc gsd24 and i've started adding cottage cheese or yogurt and sometimes i add minced raw chicken necks/backs/wings. i also started adding the missing link plus everyday. i've only been adding this for about a week, but the dogs love the other goodies. i give angus HA, colloidal silver and esterc also, but now he gets his gluc from the missing link plus. sometimes i add half a can (for 2 dogs) of a merrick dog food too, but i always decrease the kibble accordingly. i'm open to any good ideas/options for my dogs. i've learned a bit from the diet posts and want to give my dogs the best i can offer (esp angus w/his hd)

4pack, my family has had reptiles since i was a kid (yrs ago!) and my niece has a very large constrictor. they fed it a live chick one time and my sister freaked cuz they could hear it chirping all the way down!!!! my son has a columbian black and white tegu which is very aggro and so far we feed it thawed mice, but when we can get them we feed live. it s pretty brutal, but like you said, thats nature.

i wouldn't feed live kittens, but if i had to feed chicks or bunnies i would. we've only recently had people move in our neighborhood who have an unspayed cat. of course she had kittens (feral) and the coyotes have picked off most of them. sad, but the coyotes don't have the natural prey that they use too, so....

Is green trip sometimes called dirty trip? If so I did find it at the grocery store. I purchased some a couple months back $11 for 20lbs I think. I put about a foot section in with every days feeding. The dogs loved it. I'm going to look for more, tonight after work. It was next to the "bleached" white clean stuff so their was a difference. I knew better than to buy the cleaned Menudo stuff.

Also some of the upper dog food companies sell it canned. I have seen it around too. I havn't gone that route, maybe for traveling or emergencies but I prefer the fresh stuff first. Just wanted to get it out there, you do have options.

The day I stop making jokes you had better bury me because I've been dead for at least a week.

Sure my dogs get fresh food. They devastate the garden every chance they get and if there is ever anything left on my plate they get that too, not too mention the stuff they steal out of the trash can in the kitchen. Actually, when I am conditioning for top show I have the local country butcher make up a custom formula  of organ meats frozen in the form of sausages to add to the dry food and supplements I use. (My secret recipes, won't ever be posted here) No, I don't take that to the events. By the time we get there, the dogs ought to be looking just fine, no need to haul fresh anything (except water and "adult beverages" that is...)  The only one who suffers nutrituonally at an event is ME. I am usually so busy with the dogs I forget to eat. Last time I lost 8 lbs, in three days, mostly running. Sleep waits till I get home for the most part.

IMO: Freeze dried does not equal FRESH. I don't know how much that stuff costs, but I'm betting its darned high and not easy to find here in coal country.. Maybe I can use a couple of handfuls to fertilize the money tree out back. It hasn't produced anything yet but I'm still hoping.

Me? Know everything about showing dogs?   About anything???  You obviously don't know me very well. I'm lucky I can remember my own telephone number after having the same one for 8 yrs. I still make the desk clerk write my rom number on my hand.

"Do gophers count as fresh, raw diet?" (SS)

ROFLMAO - Good one, Shelley!!! I feed RAW, but I sure make room and have respect for those that feed differently than I.  To each his own, right?  Plenty of room at the bar for all of us.

Egsd-I really don't understand why you get so frustrated with how much time effort and money people put into their dogs for showing? Seriously. Most of your posts are put downs of people asking input on stacking or people who have made some accomplishment that doesn't meet your expectations of GSD ownership. I'm not saying to quit giving nput on the subjects at hand. I just can't recall any posts you've responded to that asked, "Should I be stacking my dog at all?" "Should I be abashed that my dog earned a therapy dog certification?" It's uncalled for. Now people can't even joke because that also doesn't "measure up"?  C'mon, East, lighten up and enjoy things a little. Life is too short.
