I feed raw about half the meals and supplement with kibble the other half. I have been feeding Royal Canin for German Shepherds for a while now with fairly good results. However, I believe it is good to switch foods now and again. I've tried a Timberwolf mixture recently (Wild and Natural). At first the dogs ate it, but now they walk away from it. When I see that, I don't feed it anymore. I've fed a lot of different high quality brands over the years, but have never tried Abady. Does anybody use this?

Of those listed I've tried Eagle Pack and Royal Canin gs24.  I had best results with the Eagle Pack.  But, I am now using Azmira.  Which is a great food.  I'm hoping I've found the one I'll stick with.  Fingers crossed.  It's the only one I have found that keeps the weight on my active girl.

I had the same question to Alphaisme about organs...I am curious as to why they are dangerous, too, although I think I can guess. I need to research more, so if anyone out there knows... I always tell my husband I would never personally eat liver because it is like an oil filter in a car - it is the human body filter...what do filters do...? Filter the sludge..where is the sludge trapped?...IN the Filter! So why on earth would you eat the filter???UGH (Lovely thought isn't it!) So I guess I wouldn't want my dog eating liver either... I have a probably somewhat annoying (to my dogs) side hobby of trying every dogfood that comes out declaring that it is THE "best" dogfood. What I have learned from this (other than how to clean up gelatinous poo) is stay away from corn, fillers, by-products and meat meals, try to go holistic/organic when you can, and observe your dogs - their coats, their energy, etc. Usually I can see a difference in 2 weeks - whether good or bad. I have pretty much settled (at least for a while) on Solid Gold dogfood (out of Germany) but I am never 100% sold on any dogfood and always looking to improve. Solid Gold has other supplements like MSM, Sea Meal, Flax Seed Oil, etc. for specific needs/desires and I like that. I don't want to be one of those people that overloads their dogs on too much of that stuff, however - a good dogfood should supply 99% of what the dog needs IMO. I have noticed that a lot of great looking dogs I have seen and asked the owner what they feed ...they always mention they add brewer's yeast to their dog's diet. I've had a really hard time getting it/finding it - not sure what it does either but want to try it. I like EVO dogfood, too..Innova has always been great to put weight on my dogs quickly. Don't know much about the dogfoods you mentioned, but I used IVD Duck & Potato (vet dogfood) and I may be mistaken but I think it is produced by Royal Canin and it was horrible - my dogs looked like they were on death's doorstep in a couple weeks and it was really expensive, too. Don't know about Happy Dog...heard Eagle Pak is good but haven't used it...used to use Pro Plan a LONG time ago before buying high dollar stuff and I would say it is average if you don't have a high dollar budget for dogfood. Dogs seem to like it, too - then again we like potato chips LOL. Like I've said before - I'd LOVE to do the BARF diet, but I don't think I can afford the time or $ at present.

Having said that "one cannot but recognised the convenience of commercial dog food" I wish to state that BARF isn't that difficult to prepare too. I simply tossed the chicken necks/wings, spare ribs, whole lung that I bought from the supermarket to the dogs and watch them savouring the food, no preparation required! It is rather convenient to walk into a supermarket to buy a piece of meat/bone when I am walking the dog and give it to the dog immediately. As for cost, I used to get chicken neck (with head attached) for free from my chicken supplier, he was quite happy that I helped him to dispose the rubbish. BARF works out cheaper for me since I migrated to China recently. Beef lung can be had for almost next to nothing. Prime fresh goat rack cost about US$1 per lb, but I had to lied to my butcher that I was buying for human consumption (for there are many poor folks buying off-cuts and trimmings for their own consumption) and he often asked how I managed to consume 10 lb of goat rack each day and yet stayed trim...

I use Arden Grange Super Premium dog food, because it is "Simply the Best"

A variety of raw foods, not strictly "BARF" but combination of meat parts and so on. I only supplement with fish oils, vitamin e, vitamin c, and glucosamine. Not horribly complicated...and it's easier to feed for me because I just throw them at the dogs. For kibble, when I do feed kibble which is maybe once a week, I like Canidae, Timber Wolf Organics, Innova, Innova EVO, Natural Balance, and Firstmate. My top choice is Timber Wolf Organics but it's a bit pricey...and since I only feed once a week I usually go with Canidae.

I would have to say Purina Pro Plan. They are tops in research and offer so many different foods to accomadate every need.

I have been raising my Kevin v Murrtal pup on Wendy Volhard's NDF diet...raw with her a.m. and p.m. crumble...she does all the additives for you and it is very inexpensive vs buying everything sep. yourself. (Can be found on phdproducts.com) My Yasko girl is on it also and doing very well...went from refusing food to flipping the bowl for more and now beautiful weight / coat. The pup has grown so uniformly and they are both looking great...the best I've ever used yet. If I had to go with kibble I would use the "Phd kibble" OR Solid Gold / Innova equal mix.

None of those are superior, fresh food for all living things is whats required.
