Hi guys

I really really apprecite all your input.

Last time we had her bred (the time before this wherein she failed to conceive), we did get her scanned and it stressed the hell out of her. See, she associates our vet with injections so when he's there, she tends to pull the hysterics. She literally howls like a wolf with our without a needle from the vet. Like she'd run to her kennel and lock herself inside so the vet can't get her. And you'd have to plead with liver and peanut butter to get her out (LOL).

So our strategy now is that he's give me a deadline of whelping. If she gives birth before the deadline, then that's great and normal.
If not, that's when we do a scan to make sure she's empty.

And during whelping he'll be there to help me along (my vet is home service) so if she can't push the singleton out, we can get her to the clinic (which is right outside the gate of our subdivision 5 minutes away.)

I cannot figure out why a vet of Knowledge could not push up into this bitch and tell you yeah or nay..MY vet can tell in one minute no matter where they are if a bitch has a or some pups inside of her. YES , if he is doubtful he will scan, but scans are just as deceptive...THE pups can be hidden up behind where a scan will not even show but this close to delivery , the pup should already be making its way to the birth canal and any vet of good repoir should be able to feel them

I cannot do it, never have I been able to feel anything but I am not a vet use to operating and delivery and doing c section they know exactly where pups hide or are at the few days before whelping.

I hope you find out soon..THis is worrying me as well as you..

Squessing the tit  didn't tell anything. Lots of dogs have milk and have false pregnancies.

I sure hope you are not paying for all this HOME Service more than the regular fee.

Keep an eye on her . I use locked birthing boxes and my bitches are in them until I let them out for their breaks on this last week.  I take no chances. My boxes are in air conditioned house with radio music and the birthing takes place if I am there or not there. ALL of the girls have full capability of doing it their selves but I am picky and want to know which one came first and IF any thing happens I am aware and know how to handle it..

THIS is our responsibility when breeding. YOU monitor your bitch, know how she does, and then if she is not of good quality and does not handle well...DO NOT BREED HER AGAIN.

PUPS inherit from the MOM all the crazy traits we see in females and males...THEY get about 70% from the female DAM and the sire gets tagged for the others...MOST people forget that the BITCH is the factor of design ...in pups.

SO pay attention to everything you do with her and what happens is how the pups carry on after her. IF it is not a good trait...NEVER BREED THE FEMALE AGAIN>.THERE are too many good breeding bitches in our world so chose carefully and smartly.  THIS is how our breed will improve..

I had my female AI'd through a reproduction clinic x 2 - she put on weight - hid toys - protected bones etc....xray @ 48 days gestation.....no pregnancy....your girl may have absorbed her puppys or is having a false pregnancy.  I would definately get her checked thouroughly at a veterinarian clinic practicing in reproduction as she also may have cystic ovarys or an immature uterus ie the size of a cat.....Good Luck

Any word, Ladystark? I'm sure we all seem like stalkers but this board loves puppies, and in your case a good mystery! :D

The vet could simply palapte to check for any sign of pregnancy.  This far into it, he should be able to feel if there's anything there or not.  Aside from false pregnancies, there's also pyometra which can create pregnancy symptoms but is fatal if not treated.  I'd risk the stress and get her properly checked out.  Worst it does is put her into labor if she is pregnant which is fine at this point.  Milk can't tell you anything.  I have had one bitch that reabsorbed her litter at 5 weeks and continued through it (tons of milk, behavior changes, nesting, even a temp drop for labor) but no puppies delivered obviously which we already knew from having her checked when things no longer seemed normal.  That's the most extreme false pregnancy I've had and I'm sure it was due to actually being pregnant for several weeks.  It can be a bit more extreme than this but that's incredibly rare.

Hi
Her temp is still high, at 38.8 degrees C. She also ate her breakfast well so I'm assuming I still have time before whelping, it this is indeed a genuine pregnancy. I have a few days left to find out anyway.

With concerns on pyometra, my vet says it's highly unlikely. Vet came in to the house yesterday. Bloodwork looks fine wiith no indication of infection. She's eating normally, not depressed (she LOVES to sort of wallow in the grass and go on nice afternoon walks), shes perky and responds well to things like rustling leaves and birds flying about.

It's day 63 from her first mating today though so I'm still on the lookout. Day 63 from her last mating will be this Friday.

She had stringy mucus last Friday so I'm pinning that as the mucus plug loss. Her milk came in Saturday.

I read and heard it's around a week after mucus that labor would most likey begin. Hoping for input on this since some say it's just 2 days prior to labor.

Thanks.

What did the vet tell you about this mucus ?

Hi,

He said that if she wasn't pregnant, then it may be caused by her reabsorbing puppies. Which would also explain her milk. Her body may have had puppies at one point so her body still acts pregnant. That's if she isn't pregnant.

However, as she's a first time mum, her muscles won't always allow the most obvious sagging in the belly. Moreover, maiden pregnancies laregly have puppies hidden in the chest so if she is expecting, it would be just 2 or 3. Which could also be why we didn't feel anything during palpation.

The mucus was clear and odorless and right on time if she is expecting. He says we'll go to his office as the X-Ray is there this Friday as that's his limit for waiting out the puppies if she is expecting. If her temp goes down as well, he'll get to my house to assist in whelping in case of difficulties.

Do false pregnancies get mucus plugs?

I am sorry but your vet is an idiot.

If he thinks that there is any chance of your dog being pregnant then she should be xrayed NOW.

My impression is she is not pregnant, I have been through all this too..including the milk, the digging, looking thinner in morning as well., though not the mucus.  But in my experience the mucus plug comes out hours before the birth, not days.  And usually with the first pregnancy the milk does not come in until agfter the birth (in subsequence pregnancies it can be a week or more before).  Anyway, let us know....
