Anyone doing KNPV with his / her Shepherds? Just want to know who is out there. Possibly start a micro internet based/forum about shepherds doing KNPV. Interested? Plz respond to this thread. Regards, SouthJazzStar

SJS If you do make a forum lemme know. I'm not aware of any KNPV clubs around here but that would be fun. I like KNPV much more than other dog sports. The Dutch know how to breed some good hard dogs.

Look into psak9.org instead. Its here already after all. the only thing is, that their certifications don't help you if you are a showline gsd breeder/person. But, it sounds like a lot of fun as opposed to the brainwash of schutzhund training. True knpv will probably never reach the usa. its much more demanding than schutzhund, on dogs as well as their trainers. A showline gsd will not likely take to it too easily. A working line from great breedings should do just fine with it. The selection of the right dog for the 'job' is a must. I was at the 2003 Dutch knpv world championships, and 'you ain't seen nothing yet'... it's scary even to watch the bite work coming from those dogs!

It's not scary...it's BAD ASS! Def a way to weed out the week dogs. Hopefully that "right" dog will be on the plane soon. LOL Nothing I love more than finding KNPV videos online to watch.

I am honored with all these responses. An outsider might view the KNPV sport as an extreme and violent sport. To me it's a necessity. To "Them" it could be an unfair process (call it Natural Selection if you wish) to weed out the "weakest Link". To the rest of us it is a survival: to salvage the breed from the misbreeding that took place for well more 2 decades when Show line enthusiasts controlled the SV. An era that had led to altering the breed standers and the breed testing standers. The result is breed with health, nerves, and temperament problems. A breed that no longer do what it once knew best nor the main reason for its existence: to faithfully and courageously work for his master. That is no longer the case. We all know what kind of dogs out there now and what they are capable of, if at all. Just take a good "look" at dogs of the 40's 50's and 60's.and see their protection work results. Enough said. We should all salute and encourage all KNPV Shepherd enthusiasts. In fact, the old Schutzhund trials looked very much the same like the KNPV. What happened? Examine the history of SV. KNPV is more inclusive, demanding, and challenging than PSA. I will not frown or degrade PSA; it is a good sport. It's just that I believe KNPV really challenges and tests the dog at various levels and schemes, and in more ways than mere protection. Correct me here if I was off. To be continued

It's an extreme and violent world. These dogs were bred to work and help man keep the peace. They need to evolve as we do. I agree KNPV dogs are more suited to the protection aspect we seek in GSD's. Would I want a KNPV dog for my seeing eye dog? No but I'm not blind so...
