It kind of depends on how many pups are in her, but an average size litter of 6-7, I could usually tell at about 5 weeks.

I have noticed this on some of my females after I have bred them. Around two weeks into the pregnancy some of my females with vomit for a week after I feed them their morning meal. I figure morning sickness. Then at three weeks you have a "window" to palpate and feel little ball bearings in her stomach if you know what to feel for. Then after that it takes between 5-6 weeks and you see her stomach getting bigger and her nipples will fall a bit. This is when I start feeding the female 3 times a day. You can also get a ultra sound around the 45th day to confirm. Good luck. Jill Straley

It has been 42 days since she was bred. She feels firm, but she is not round or buldging. Is this normal? Max

Jill, an ultrasound can usually be performed at 28 days and can see them. A blood test looking for relaxin, I believe, can be done around 30-35 days to confirm pregnancy. X-rays can be done at day 45, when the bones of the pups have started to calcify. Some females are harder to tell than others, especially if it is their first litter, or if it is a small litter. If you MUST know, wait 3 days, and then get an x-ray performed. Good luck!

My female didn't start really showing until about 3 weeks before she had them. She has a waspish waste and I guess was carrying high. Hope it helps- She had an ultrasound confirming 6 pups and actually had 9. They were not large pups at birth and I was only able to save 4 total, which are now thriving:)

This is mine and my females first litter and I appreciate everyones input. She looks a little fuller at her waist, but other than that she is not showing. Max

Hello Max I have a female now 45 days only just showing she is pregnant (I suspected bfore due to mornng sickness). My other female is also pregnant, with her I could tell before 4 weeks. I think 5-6 weeks is average to start showing but its very variable. Good luck!

Thanks to everyone who replied. I have another question, this female is an recent import of working lines. She has been acting shy around us since the day she arrived. Is this normal behaviour for an pregnant female? Is she doing this only because she is pregnant Should I be concerned about weak nerves? Max
