I know there have been threads on this before, but if someone could please take a look at these photos and give me your opinion I would greatly appreciate it. I have a 21 week old female with a quarter inch overbite. I've never seen such a gap on a pup. Unfortunately I do not know what her mouth looked like at 8 weeks of age, as I've heard this would be a good indicator on chances of self correction.
Thanks so much.

i would hazard at a guess that NO,it wont correct itself.I know that the pup is only 21 wks.n that the underjaw will still have some growing to do but IMO.IT WILL NOT BE CORRECT at 6/8 mths.Sorry.BTW.i,ve had a female pup who had a gap slightly larger than this n it didnt correct itself.Carole S.

I also doubt that big an overbite will completely correct itself, sorry.

I've seen a 1/4 inch overbite correct its self to end up a perfect bite. But this seems like more that that? Some overbite is very common in large boned GSD pups and it usually corrects it's self before age 2. What's the pedigree?

that does look like more than 1/4 inch. I did have one a couple years ago that was approx. 1/4 inch that did correct before 1 year. so I'm going to say it is possible.

Thank you for all the replies.
I measured the gap between the bottom front teeth to the front top teeth.
Her pedigree is http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=727823
Supposedly big boned parents. Not sure if that matters.

We held back a reallly nice male last year that was perfect at 8 weeks. Bite was great, at 20 weeks had an overbite that I was thinking "oh crap". He corrected by 7 months and has a fine bite. so it is hard to tell..

Why don't you ring her breeder and ask what her bite was like at 8 weeks?
It is possible that it could correct it's self in the next 6 months or so, remember that the lower jaw does grows slower than the upper.

I was told that the lower jaw can grow slower than the rest of the skull causing the overbite. Once a pup has finished growing it will in most cases correct it's self.

I´m really sorry to tell you that this problem is irreversible...
