Does anybody here have tried using a microchip to their dog? I am wondering if it leaves a mark to the skin of a dog like a little lump or scar.

I just had 2 dogs microchiped and don't see or feel anything unusual. I was worried too. I asked my vet and he said he had not had any trouble with them except on a few dogs they migrate down the leg.

Nope, every dog in my kennel is microchiped and nobody has a mark or scar. We microchip every puppy before they leaves for there new home's between 6-8 weeks and never had any scaring or lumps. When you first do the microchip you can actually feel it under the skin for sometime.

Do they put the chip at the back beside the spinal cord? I bought a female in Germany 4 months ago and I just noticed there's a little lump around her back and I just found out through her vaccination record that she has a microchip and I'm thinking maybe it's the microchip. The lump is about twice the size of a green pea and it is firm.

Chinito, That does not sound like a chip, that sounds like a problem. No problems here with chips ever, we microchip all of our puppies. and all of our dogs are chipped as well. Our vet puts chip into the first layer of muscle over the shoulder blade, to keep it from migrating, so far it has worked very well, and we never notice the chips ever. Good Luck and I would advise get that dog in and have vet look at the lump your describing.

Microchips usually do not cause lumps, unless they get infected. It may be a lump from the vaccinations. That is pretty common and if that is what it is then it will go away. Forsure have your vet check it out, as it could be a million other things too. Debby

chinito... I can feel the microchip in my female's neck (just above her whithers) it's a little bigger than a grain of rice (no mark or scar though)...something twice the size of a green pea is not the microchip, I'd get it checked. Regards, Melanie

We have all of our dogs micro chipped. after about 10 dogs only one developed a small lump which went away after a couple months. Your vets chip reader may not be compatible with the chip in your dog. There are a couple different frequencies which need different readers.
