sorry should have been more particular, i make up a squirty bottle 250ml or what ever, so half 125ml white vineger half 125ml boled water, squirt the mixture into the ear and massage and leave in, in really really works, cheap and effective, and if you are religious abotu doing it once a week you wont have a problem (point though if its diet related it will help but not cure, change the diet and do this) also adding high doses of vitamin c and yougurt helps aswell

Thanks to all; I will try vinager/water for maintenance.

PS:  Wesenhund;  the puppy in your avatar is really pretty.

Have great holidays everyone.  Nan

another vote for zymox. cured my dad's lab after some pretty hefty vet bills and nothing else worked. The dog had scratched his ears bloody before we found this.

Zymox, works wonders! I have tried them all, and nothing compares. They also make a cleanser for maintenance that prevents the yeast and bacteria from growing .

Thanks everyone;  I got the Zymox and have given him 3 treatments, once per day.  Does that sound right??  According to their directions it does not say to treat more than once per day, but treat for 7-14 days depending on how bad the ear(s) are.  I think I am going to proceed ahead with twice per day.  Today is day 3 and they are better but not good as of yet.  Nan

Don't forget to keep it up after it heals by weekly treatment of Zymox without the hydrocortisone.

Good idea would also be to get a culture and sensitivity done.  I got back a male many years ago who had been throwing chronic ear infections, and if treated daily they cleared, but the choice was to euth him or bring him back to the US.  I did a regular non medicated wash with dilute H202 and took him in for a culture 5 days later.  The sensitivity showed a mix of Staff, Yeast and bacteria with the only sensitivity being to one specific antibiotic on all.  Meds got ordered, ears got cleaned and treated with streight dose of antibiotic topically in the ear.   Retreated in one week and it cleared.  He'd been thru a dozen antibiotics, ear surgery etc but until we hit the correct antibiotic it was endless.    Wishing you well.  Ears can be rough.

Thank you windwalker for the advice;  that is exactly where I am headed;  I am giving this until next week, with Zymox and then its to the vet for culture and sensitivity.  And yes ears are a mess to clear up and this boy has been cronic for quite a while now, off and on, but still cronic; don't like that at all and makes me think possibily something is in the ear like dirt, leaves, debris.  Who knows but??  Thx again to all, NAn

PS:  I have cleaned out all I can from the ear with Q-tips and have started giving him apple cider vinager in his food in AM;  we will see.  Nan
