Ah-ha, well then, that makes a big difference, gimme10mins--the GSD w/diarrhea wouldn't concern me overly much, as long as it wasn't the watery, projectile variety that happens multiple times per day; if it's just the basic soft, pudding-like stool but there's no increase in the frequency she defecates, you might just need to do some fine-tuning with her diet at the moment. The mini Schnauzer, OTOH, would still worry me...diarrhea on it's own isn't generally a clinical sign for pyo, but anorexia on it's own is often the only clue you get--consider that the normal hormonal changes in the pregnant female push her to take in *more* food until just before whelping, not less, so refusal to eat is contrary to the normal body signals for a pregnant bitch. Keep in mind, though, that there's a difference between not eating for a day, or getting very picky about what she eats, and not eating over the course of a couple of days. In an midstage pregnancy female, the former's not a problem, just keep an eye on her for any lethargy, increased thirst +/- increased urination; once the inappetance goes a couple of days, though, that's more worrisome in a bitch at that's less than 40 days bred.

going  off feed is very normal at 4 weeks , but getting the runs is not, i would keep a close eye on that.

Hey everyone,
Schanuzer doesn't have any diarrhea, on the shepherd. But I think the problem with my schnauzer is that she is being picky. I brought canned food and tried to mix it with her kibble and she all the canned food and left the kibble. So she is back eating. She just doesn't want the kibble. Any suggestions? Is it ok to feed her canned food for the rest of her pregnancy or do you think she will start back eating the dry food

gimme10mins, if the Schnauzer will eat the canned food and not the dry, that certainly points toward being picky as opposed to illness...and I'm glad to hear that this is the case. :)  While I know that this will horrify some folks, there's no reason you can't safely feed her canned food instead of her usual kibble.  I'd still offer her kibble a few times each day, in case she changes her mind, though.

I had a preggo that would only eat raw chicken quarters......everything else gave her the runs.
I forced Red Cell, and a bit of Dyne into her..
Once the puppies were born, she refused the raw chicken and wanted kibble with canned mixed in.
They are all different.

when it comes to a dog that does not want to eat, you feed what ever you can get them to eat, i had a female once that i end on giving cooked rice and meat as she would not eat anything else, and for i while i put gravy on top of the kibble , that worked for awhile.  what ever you get her to eat is what i would do, she has to eat.  and yes some will get the runs.

Hello everyone,
I was reading on the pregnancy calculator that at about two weeks left in the pregnancy I might want to cleaning the vulva and her nipples with a warm towel. Why are they saying do this? Is she going to have some type of fluid coming out of her vulva or nipples?
