Hello all,
Is it common in pregnant females who are nearly a month since breeding to experience diarrhea and or a lack of appetite? If it is common how do you rememdy it? For a female who is not eating would you recommend putting some chicken broth or something over her kibble to make her eat or will she just eat on her own? I understand at this point if she is pregnant she is full of hormones and can have discomfort. As far as the diarrhea what could be said about that?
Thanks

I had a female who for the last month did exactly what you are going through. I took her to the vet and everything turned out fine but had diarrhea the entire time and 2 days after whelping it just stopped.
I tried everything to get her to eat. I eneded up giving her a cpl satin balls everyday and i made up a high calorie puppy formula to make sure she was getting enough.
She had 7 healthy happy puppies and was just a pain the butt for the last month:)

Good luck with her.

My female didn't really have diarrhea, but a month into it she did have a lack of appetite last time......I ended up having to put canned food into absolutely everything mixing it all over the food for about three weeks and then finally she got back to eating Taste of the Wild by itself again.    She whelped 6 very healthy/active puppies and they all thrived and did great.

Lack of appetite is very common at that stage, can even have some vomiting too.  Haven't heard of diarrhea, but that wouldn't surprise me.  It's comparable to morning sickness that humans experience when they are pregnant.  My girl was extremely picky with her food during her 2 preganacies, I fed her whatever she would eat and she had 6 and 7 healthy pups.

10 minutes,
If you only feed kibble please add to it slowly now.
It is not enough for a pregnant animal on it's own.
There should not be diarrhea, maybe a loose stool but not the runs.
They will want more water as well.
Chicken broth (low salt) is fine, so is beef broth, meat scraps and fat, an egg, some cheese, I add canned salmon, little smokies sausages, even canned dog food can be added to spark the appetite.
I moisten the kibble also to help, makes it easier to swallow.
She needs more than usual now so don't be afraid to invest in a good diet.
Moons.

I feed Costco brand dog food. I switch between natures domain and Kirkland. What type of canned dog food. Do I feed? Puppy formula canned food or adult formula? I will buy some chicken and beef broth with low sodium.

I would probably add some yogart or maybe a probiotic pill;  try to get a stool sample in to your vet if possible.  See what's going on with that in case you need to worm her after she whelps.  Best of luck;  maybe some pumpkin (canned and plain would help the diarrahea) plus would be healthy for her.  Maybe make her some doggy stew to put over her kibble:  here's the recipe:  Some type ground meat, grind carrots; any type squash; all vegi's need to be ground up in food processor so they can digest;  apples are good;  green beans, spinach; any other leafy greens;  red or green cabbage good;  I just choose 3-4 vegi's; whatever is available.  Add all to large pot with some water or chicken broth (homemade if you can) and let steep until vegi's are tender, meat will be best rare cooked.  Stir and serve after cooled down;  usually makes enough for several days.  I use 4 vegi's; 3 lbs ground meat; water;  you can also add some eggs and let steep along with the rest of the stuff.  Best of luck;  Nan

Not for nothing, but a bitch that's just a little over 30 days bred and is anorexic and having diarrhea is a bitch I'd want the vet to check--these may be strictly due to hormonal changes, but they may ALSO be your only signal that your bitch is having a closed pyometra (uterine infection) and is getting septicemic on you...which can and will kill her if not detected and dealt with immediately.

Sure, it MIGHT not be a pyometra, but there's no way I'd risk the life of my bitch, let alone that of the litter, just to save the cost of a check up and some bloodwork...

Thanks everyone for the replies,
I have to clarify somethings. These symptoms are not in one female. I actually have two bred females. One is a mini schnauzer who just turned two and this is her first time breeding. She is the one not eating. The other is a five year old gsd who has the diarrhea. She was bred also a few days after my schnauzer but she was AI'd not sure if it took but this week she has developed diarrhea and I'm just wondering if its due to possibly being pregnant. She still eats fine. Sorry for the confusion.
