Hello,
I want a few opinions on owning many dogs. I currently have two male German Shepherd dogs, two Chihuahuas. I recently have decided I want to breed my male shepherd, only I need a female. I am starting to worry that I may have too many dogs in the house though. We are currently living a a small cottage home. Our yard is HUGE. My landlord dose not mind about how many dogs I have. We are planning on buying our own home soon. So what do you think? 3 shepherd and two Chihuahuas and two bengal cats, Is this too much to hold me back from becoming a small breeder, meaning just having one male and one female breeding once yearly?

When you become overwhelmed and cannot give them proper care, attention, training...If you are thinking that adding another will make it too many, its probably going to be too many. Whats just right for one, may be too many for another. Also, check with your local animal control for ordinances, as many cities have a maximum dog clause and its usually around 4.
Heeyyy now, nothing wrong with chihuahuas! :) My chihuahua Harley gave me the best advise ever when he peed on my ex-husbands face while we were sleeping!! Took me a few more years to see what he saw, but gosh he was a smart boy!

Again check with you local animal control officials as to limits.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice. Well my little Chihuahuas were raised with my GSD's. They are like mini shepherds! One is 14 months, the other is 10 months, they do not bark. I am a vet technician and for the longest time when they were little pups I thought they were deaf, but no there not, they just don't bark!! Which is great! And sweet, sweet, sweet personalities. Great little dogs, the cats are no problem, and little dogs are no problem either. It's just that everyone, friends and family say "No More big dogs", but I don not feel over loaded at all, they go to the beach for long walks and swims daily, they are trained OB and protection and are as healthy as can be. I devote a lot of time to my German Shepherds. I think a female would be a great addition to my pack. I mean our house is small, but yard is big!

I too am going to err on the side of EXTREME CAUTION
TWO too many chicos
Having bred AMerican Showline Cocker Spaniels for years and years before I got my german shepherds, and sold many a gsd to people with small pets at home , against my wishes to either give Gracie to mom or mother in law...
I do not care how nice your two chicos are or how well behaved your gsd is, nor how well he gets along NOW
If you add a female into this house...all HELL AND BRIMSTONE
and problems you do not need will arise.
I could write a book to explain but will not.. JMO
EIther TAKE IT SERIOUSLY AND LISTEN , AND MAYBE OTHERS WILL KNOW
i DO NOT CARE , if 20 people here have a pair of both and it worked for them. THE ODDS are against it.
