Is it appropriate to bring your dog if they are not entered into the show?

by vom ost see on 12 September 2011 - 13:09

gimmie10....check the disclaimers available at most websites, for club type shows and trials it's usually not a problem if you have vaccination proof with you and your dogs are properly secured(dog should be securely crated) most will frown on dogs just being left loose in a car...that's not a secure situation at all...good sturdy collars and leads are a must also.most will almost encourage newcommers to bring their dogs to events, but in all fairness to the handlers/trainers who work so hard to have their dog "trial ready",you'll have to put the dog up once the event starts out of respect to the event..which really makes it a "bust" to even bring a "non-entered" dog to an event also....do not allow your dog to go up to competitors "trial dogs"..the handler/trainer is in most cases, fairly keyed -up on trial day and it's not the time for a confrontation.same goes with goining up to a dog that you don't know and trying to pet the dog.it's always best to go to an event "dogless" and look for a chance to speak with the entrants after they've shown their dogs...so, before the event starts, after it ends may be an acceptable time to bring your dog out to socialize...but keep your dog secure and quite...most competitors and seasoned spectators tend to be cordial and respectfull...but if you show up with a "pink pet store lead and collar" with a bandana on your dog's neck..thrust me...you'll be avoided like the plague.....people always bring "non-entered" dogs to events...rare that it doesn't happen..but be respectfull of the event and secure your dog properly, that means proper crates, leads and collars....enjoy the events!

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm looking at expanding my knowledge and trying my best to see what is talked about so much first hand. If anyone is going to be at any of these shows and willing to do some explaining and teaching please let me know. Just looking for a little guidance. Thanks
