Of what type (size?) of kennel do you mean? The small hobby kennels or the large professional kennels. Even the largest GSD kennels are only allowed to produce ten (10) litters per year under S.V. rules. And small hobby breeders usually produce but one (1) or two (2) litters per year. If you mean the very large "puppy mill" type of kennels that produce low-grade dogs of questionable heritage, then I would agree with you. Of course you don't see that so much with the GSD or other large breeds. I presume this is what you mean by kennel breeding. Please clarify if I am mistaken. Bob-O

"Backyard breeders" yesterday, "Kennel Breeders" today. What's going to be the fashionable "scarlet letter" tommorrow? The loyal, magnificent, and versatile German Shepherd Dog will survive them all! Stephen

Black Sable IMO What is your definition of a "kennel breeding"? The kennel you had commented on before does'nt keep dogs for very long. The stock rotates very quickly. Buying bitches that have already been bred, whelping them and selling the pups and then the bitch when she is done. Alot of smoke and mirrors and not alot of concern about the breed if you ask me. Relying on "title parents" to sell the pups.I have found that titled does'nt nessesarily mean that the pups will turn out good. Back to the same ole' story when you buy a pup from a kennel or not there are no guarentees. In any situation,it's better to deal with someone that breeds the same dogs year after year and has seen that the pups are growing to be good representations of the breed. It's not easy though. Anything can pop up in any litter. And we are working with a very small gentic pool.
